I will be living and working in Guangdong Province.
I have had two Z visas, but the last one expired in July and I will return in August.

School must apply for Invitation letter with HK Z pick-up at SAFEA (FEB).
If ILetter is approved, you can pick Z in HK.
You'll be required to exit China, and both documents (IL&WPermit) must be send to your HK address. You can count on minimum 2-3 weeks HK stay.
If you're home, wait till school get both documents, and send it to your home address. Then, you can just get Z in your home country Chinese Embassy.
That's less complicated, IMO.
Z visa expire in 30-days of your entry to China, and must be replaced by Residence permit.

Only if people Lo.Ok, before asking if the a** should be wiped from south to north or from north to south? ..... was this question asked before? maybe I should start a thread with it...
Pinned posts that are updated!!! You all know how the laws change in this place!!
Answering the OP... maybe!!!
If it's a new job - which, since you're now coming in on a tourist - yes... you'll need to get your no-criminal history check done. And probably apply for the Z in your home country! I did last time! But, the previous time, I went to HK!
Let me put it to you this way. You get a Z visa in Hong Kong if the company or school you're applying for knows how to do it, has done it and says no problem we've done it all the time. If they don't say any of those things than you can't.
