Q: Is it possible to extend z visa with out a recommendation letter from previous employer?
I am presently employed employed here in Tangshan City as ESL Teacher. My boss wont give me any recommendation letter considering that he wants me to stay with his company. I want to apply to another school anywhere in China but visa extension is my problem. Is a recommendation letter from previous employer necessary to apply visa extension?

If you complete the Contract, your employer must give you (Chinese law) all necessary documents (Release letter, FECertificate cancellation cert. and Recommendation letter) for Residence permit extension in 30 days after your last working day.
You can seek advice from Foreign Expert Bureau (SAFEA) in your city.
Type 'SAFEA' in the search bar above for address and telephone numbers in your city.
It is not possible to extend RP without Release letter and FEC cancelation cert.

I did that in Dalian Traning center. They assigned more hours to work than per Contract (without my agreement), what was the reason for 30 days RN.
Dalian SAFEA (told me '30 days after my last working day School must surrender all docs. is by Chinese law') helped me get all docs., and last pay.
