No, Shangahi is too far ...

Anybody cares for an extra rain-coat?

I have to admit, it won't be free  of charge.

No problem driving but keep in mind two things, the tolls could be twice the bus fare or the train fare. The second item, given the scammers shaking down foreigners for money, do you really want to drive around with a car that has a foreigner license plate to be a target. Drive a car that is in the name of a Chinese person and blend into the crowd. Driving in Shandong with a yellow foreigner tag is just a bull's eye on your wallet.

One exception to the rule, my black foreign colleague has a foreiner plate on his car and when people see him, they all scatter like a tsunami is coming, fast commute times when I am a passenger.

They’ve not made foreigners have their own style of licence plates for a long time. You rarely see those old black plates about now. My Guangdong plate was a standard one.

Maybe not apply in other provinces, but in Shandong, the foreigner plate is yellow and everybody else's is blue. The national police that can carry guns for the sake of national unity and harmony have plates that start "WJ" and then a number, the plate is blue but on occasion you see a head asshole of the anti-protest wj mafia with a driver and his plate is white with blue letters. I hope its a system they are getting rid of but the provinces in the south seemed to progress quicker than the central and north. That's good news hotwater, hope it happens here soon, most of us just put the tag and car in the wife's name anyway to avoid the hassle. One fellow here owns a fabrication factory, he just hired a Chinese driver to avoid people walking in front of his car and falling down all the time.

8 year wait for a license plate in Beijing, OUCH, subtle compliant behavior.

The theft of plates to use to avoid tickets and have someone else get the fine is common, so this company makes a fortune here in Shandong and of course has a nice relationship with police offices for referrals.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
