Q: Is it possible to get work permit after entering China on a tourist visa?

Is it possible to get work permit after entering China on a tourist visa?? Say for example I am in China on tourist visa and I have all the documents needed to apply for work permit (all legalized and authenticated from the Chinese Embassy). Can I apply for a work permit and residence permit (with help from my employer of course)? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Don't try doing this.

if an employer has suggested that you enter on a tourist visa, to be converted when you arrive into a work permit, you are setting yourself up to be scammed, exploited or both.

a legitimate employer would not even suggest you do this.

if an employer 'promises' that it will not be a problem once you arrive, it means they don;t have a licence to hire a foreigner.

ask to see your prospective employers licence (for foreign workers), or ask for contact details of other foreigners they now employ - or employed recently.

if they fail to do either or both, or 'get offended'; they are not legitimate.

you will then end up being the one screwed over by your employer.

don't think for a moment that they would not do this because they assure you that you can 'trust them'.

an employer who fails to follow legitimate process to provide the correct documents for a work visa prior to you arriving, would be hiring you illegally.

also don't think that it is ok to arrive as a tourist and begin working.

To change Tourist to Working visa one is required to exit China (mainland) and apply for Working visa in Chinese Embassy abroad.

First time Working visa (Z) applications were possible ONLY in one's home country Chinese Embassy.

You cannot apply for Working visa in China. You must visit Chinese Embassy abroad to apply for Z visa.

That rule isn't any different in any other countries Working visas as in Russia, which I also applied beside the Chinese Working visa.

Am gonna get me new raincoat ... with this. Point is poster above JoanneLee is ..., i.e. don't follow this BS!

https://www.careerchina.com/blog/Get-Your-Working-Visa-for-China

Excerpt:

"The Work Visa (Z visa) is valid for 30 days, which enables your entry to China.  Upon arrival in China you will be assisted with obtaining your official Work Certificate and Resident Permit (the final step of the process)."

... or in other words, one CANNOT transfer/change any visa into Z visa inside China. One must exit China and apply for Z visa at Chinese Embassy abroad/out of China and return to China with Z visa!

Chinese regualations at applying for Working visa aren't any different than in most countries around the world.
