10 years 34 weeks ago in Visa & Legalities - China
If you are not Chinese, the answer is 'yes' it is if you fulfill all the criteria for the job. Unfortunately, if you are looking for a teaching position, you may be discriminated against of you are a non-native English speaker.
Traveler:
They have imposed this law requiring native speakers only because of the huge amount of non-native speakers that had little skills in speaking or using English.
It also depends on the company's background and if they need or have and contacts.
i am already a teacher here. since 1 year. But for the visa i know lots of companies dont offer for non native speakers. I will be moving to beijing soon ( cross fingers) and i was told that the school will provide visa. I wanted to be sure if it is possible. Thank you :)
if a school has made you a job offer they should immediately supply you with the 3 required pieces of official documentation (I was sent 3: Confirmation Letter of Invitation, Working Permit, Invitation Letter.) that you will need to apply for the correct work visa. If they don't do this, they are not legitimate and are trying to employ you illegally. Ask your new school when they will send them to you.
thnx a lot sorrel i didn't know about this... i will ask for sure.. :)
Impossible
Hulk:
Note that manasyt is joking! He is a non-native English teacher, and pretty good at it.
manasyt:
Yes, joking...Will be starting my 4th school year in China in September. The first year was a nightmare...agency, F visa, constant bullshit...but I pulled through...The last 2 years have been awesome . Good luck!
Sure you know there are more jobs than teaching right? SO why not?
Yes, If a School Hired you , it should provide all the legal documents required to apply for Work Visa.
right legal academic qualifications (BA + 2 years of experience + TEFL) = Z visa
you got the right visa or not? because i am also suffering the same problem.
I am Non-native English teacher also. At my 1st Public School in Fujian, application for WPermit (and HK Z pick-up) is in progress.
Last week, I contacted 2nd School in Foshan, Guangdong, which replied:
'Hi,Mr ..... I am Catherine Lynn, head of English group in Foshan Shunde Technical and vocational school. I just received your application letter for the teaching job which posted on eChiancities. But can you tell me what's your nationality with a copy of passport ? Because we're only allowed to hire native English speaker by the Foshan Foreign Affairs Bureau, I have to confirm it before further steps in case that we waste your time.'
After I forwarded her my CV, she replied today:
'Thank you for your quick response, and I am impressed by your references. I will ask the Foreign Affair Bureau to see if there is an exception for you.'
As I understand, School can talk out FEB to issue WPermit, however it looks Coastal cities (Provinces) in China enforce Law on 'only Native English teachers are granted WPermit'.
hunny797:
i hope that criteria is only for the English teaching jobs and not other jobs..right?
BTW what nationality are you?
icnif77:
See my reply below. 'Everybody comes from her/his mum!' Didn't you know that?
hunny797:
well well..
strange you are an English teacher..
I didn't ask where you come from.. i asked your nationality..So your nationality is MUMMISH or MAMISH???
I wonder what is your national emblem if you come from your MUM-LAND
And what picture is printed on your MUM-MINBI
icnif77:
Pic is my 'Norwegian Forest Cat' (breed). She was also holding EU (MUM's land) passport.
Usually visas are for non-natives. Natives don't need visas because, well, they are natives. I never heard of a country requiring natives having a visa. Maybe if you are Prussian and you are from the area that is now Kaliningrad maybe you might need a visa to live there.
so you taught 1 year illegally?????
hunny797:
OP says she has already been teaching here for 1 year. It means either she was on Z visa or any other visa..
If Z then this question was not necessary because she already got Z visa while being a non native..
If any other then she was teaching it illegally,...
icnif77:
If School cannot get WPermit, they offer other visas to FT, or probably 'yes, she worked illegally'.
Till 2012, not too many people cared for the right visa. It was much more convenient for School and FT to employ/work with F.
I am about to complete my first contract with proper Z visa and FEC. I am applying for another FEC at different place and different role. There was not any issue in doing all the things for me having MA and pre-China 3+ years experience+blond hair+white monkey. The thing is whenever I talked to them, they took me as an American. Foreigners according to Chinese are of two types; Americans and Africans , I guess.
I don't know what is going on with the rules as they changes time to time but I am certain that having the basic requirements and a willing employer there isn't going to be any issue in getting a Z+FEC.
