Q: Is it possible to go on a diet in China when you love the food?

My favorite are dumplings. I eat them all day. Peking duck is also delicious. Even those smelly tofu, i can't say no to it.
Is China the worst place on earth to go on a diet?

It doesn't matter what country you live in, anybody who eats too much meat and refined carbs is naturally going to put on weight!

But yeah even still, China would be a horrible place to go on a diet I would imagine!

My Chinese friend told me of a diet she goes on once in a while which will make you shed about 20 pounds in one month. I tried it and lost about 6 pounds and was actually happy with the results. Everyone noticed I had lost weight and complimented me all the time.

So here's the key: you can't eat dairy products (including meat and tofu) at the same time as carb products. You have to choose before your first meal whether it will be a dairy day or wheat day. Basically, in the first week you eat three regular meals. If you choose dairy day, you can eat as much meat, tofu, eggs, milk etc. and vegetables you want, but no bread, cereals or any carbs for that matter. If you choose a carbs day, you can eat bread, rice, noodles etc. but it can't contain any dairy or meat products. You can eat as many vegetables as you like always. But you can only eat one piece of fruit on a carb day and no fruit on a dairy day. The sugars will make you fat.

You keep this choosing technique up for 4 weeks, but each week you have to reduce your meals by one. So in the first week you have 3, in week 2 you have 2 meals, in week 3 only 1 and in week 4 you can only eat 200g of food in one day. After the 4 weeks you should have lost a ton of weight. You obviously can't go back to eating as normal straight away. You have to slowly phase your body back in, by doing the inverse: 1 meal in first week, then 2, then 3 etc. Smile

wenna7, diet means to "control ur appetite" Wink Also my mother doesn't cook for me, I 99% of the time cook for myself... And unlike most Chinese living abroad (who'll only eat Chinese food) I'm in China, of course I'll eat like the locals!!

Hey thanks for the hint, Redaria, i'll give it a try!

And Paiplain and Njord, consider yourself lucky to be able to lose weight. Maybe i'll have to put something in my butt to make it loose so i can maybe win against overweight...

I cut back my portions and I like to eat. I started snacking all day on carrot sticks,, lost 20 lbs in 2 months,(first bit easy), could only eat carrots for 4 months and in the last 3 months only lost 5 lbs( then gets harder).
Chinese herbs called Ephedra sinica (or Ma Huang) may help appetite control, you can read about this.
