I am currently in China holding a 2-year multiple entry L-visa and is offered an internship, so I want to change to F-visa to avoid all the hassle having to renew my L-visa or whatsoever. I have the invitation letter and all that, any idea if I can do it in Beijing and how?

look up the Chinese Embassy in your country and ask them. At least you will have the answer in writing good luck to you
Do as Phil says, and you will get an answer hopefully, right now it is "changing times", and the right hand has no idea what the left is doing. Further, if you are from country like USA, where you must use a visa agent to get your visa, you can contact the agent and send them your documents, they get the visa for you and mail them back to Beijing. I have done it twice already, and saved a ton of money in airfares and hotels.
Just make sure you keep a color copy of all pages of your passport in case is lost, and use an International Carries like FedEx or DSL.

I second this advice. This is how I have been doing for 3 years.

Mailing our passports back to the U.S will be the new norm for us Americans. No choice.
You shouldn't have any problem changing your L to a 6 month F visa. But After September you can't do such a change.
But I agree call and ask.
Yes, it is possible to do. But we should know your actual situaion, then can see what we can do..
email to us, you will get further information.

In China NO ! You can exit with L to HK and apply there for M visa, M visa is the new visa that was F before. 1 year, multy entries with limited days per stay. Conmtact me to aylin_wu@yahoo.com and I can help you if you are interested. I am foreign also here.
F visa now is only for visit and non comercial activity, and not longer than 6 months. M visa it is the new business visa now.
From what I have read and hear inside China at the Local Exit/Entry PSB NO! I have heard of many people going to HK to get this done. However in many cases it seems they are only issuing the F or L visa for anywhere from 1 to 3 months just single entry. I could be wrong, I am sure there always exceptions for renewing in HK. I have heard of a few people who have used a visa agent and they send their passports and documents to other consulates like Los Angeles, USA and they have been still able to get multi entry one year M and L visas. Just depends who you know, what connections they have, and how much are you willing to fork over. But I would be weary of going through visa agents who dont have a good reputation or credibility. Many of those visas they give can be fake or fraudelant so be careful if you go through a visa agent.
