While people still care for older relatives in Australia, government pensions or private retirement funds relieve almost all of any financial burdens, while aged care facilities or assisted home care also take care of many other needs.

It's Chinese culture to look after your parents. However, a single child having to support 4 parents is a development of the One Child Policy and isn't part of traditional culture. Just an unforeseen consequence, or maybe they knew it would happen. My mother will get social security when she gets old and one of my siblings will settle in my hometown so he can look after her in her old age.  Americans care a lot more for their elders than people think they do.

Chinese guys are just the best whiners.

My grandmothers and stepgrandmothers are all living with and beeing taken care of by my parents and my aunts, and two of them in particular are in pretty bad shape, health-wise. But no one in my family whines or complains like the Chinese do: we just consider it a responsibility.
