Yes, it is true. But not all will, only the bigger ones, like the 5 stars or so. Maybe a few 4 stars.
But be aware, they may offer you a lower rate than banks, and on top may charge you a fee for doing so.
And one ;last observation, makes no difference where you exchange money, check each bill carefully to insure that you got no fakes, before leaving the place of exchange

have your ever got fakes from Chinese Bank or 5star hotel?.. normally i blindly believe both these places..

In China, I do not trust even my shadow. I got my fake 100.s yuan bills out of ATM machine at a local branch of ICBC Bank. And they refused to exchange them, even if security guard confirmed the bills came out pof machine because he was next to me helping with transaction.

I hated litigating against banks. Even before the bailouts, they could get away with anything.

ICBC refused to change them, and I even called the Police and wasted 4 hours. Even their security man confirmed my story, and still refused
