Q: Is it true that it's possible to get a work permit without a degree if you have experience?

I mentioned before about a friend going to Hong Kong a few days ago and all the subsequent visa stuff.

Well, there's more.  It's been said, a degree isn't necessary if you have experience, or if you have done a TEFL course within China.

Anyone else heard of this and able to verify it?

I want to go and find out myself, but, I know I will be questioned on my purposes etc.

Of course it is possible but it is harder of course. Your employer needs to show why you are needed. I mean I know lot of +20 years experience expatriates without a degree but lot of certificates and proof of their professionalism.

So yes, but it is harder to proof.

Anything is possible in China if your employer has the right contacts. That little old chestnut called "Guanxi".

It also depends on the FEB (Foreign Expert's Bureau) in your area.  Some are sticklers for the rules, whereas others are more lenient or pliant.
