Q: Is it true ......

That tight fitting clothes will keep more body heat than loose fitting ones ?.   My GF is bugging me to buy skin tight sweaters, claiming that they will keep me warmer than the ones I have which are loose fitting, since I do hate to feel my body constricted by tight clothes.

Is she correct, or totally full of it ?.

Happy, this is what I found on a site belonging to the NIS:

  • Fiction: Wearing tight fitting clothes will keep the body warmer than loose fitting clothes.

Fact: Wear at least three layers of loose-fitting clothes. The air pockets between the layers will help retain body heat and prevent excessive sweating. Keep your body as dry as possible by wearing water absorbing clothes.

Tight clothes DO NOT keep you warmer.  Loose layers that trap air inside will keep you feeling toasty warm!
