much easy than your think, i saw a lot of foreigners work here know nothing except their language.

Njord:

In many ways I think you need nothing more than a language... I speak Chinese (mandarin and some Cantonese) quite well if I do say so myself, never, ever had formal classes just help from native speakers! It's all you need! The local Chinese teachers will teach grammar etc, far better than almost any native speaker, we know the grammar and rules but most are never taught the "labels" for it... The Chinese students by enlarge learn to read and write very young and are quite good at it, they just need help speaking, with pronunciation and using slang, idioms, metaphors, etc... Work on their listening etc... we also often break grammar rules in spoken English so they need to experience that... Elitists asses that take themselves to seriously as teachers (unless of course they are in fact registered teachers with a degree in education) are dinks. And even if you have the education, if you act like an elitist asshole, you're a drip, stop taking yourself so serious.

Not sure what you mean by "not so much educated", that said, if you have a degree sure you can get a job, keeping the job, may be the problem.

Unfortunately, people with no skills or proper education get jobs all too easily here...they don't do a proper job and don't care about their responsibilities towards others (such as students trying to learn English from someone who doesn't even have basic spelling down him/herself). But, with that kind of background, sure you can do some mediocre job, but longterm, you're not going going to get very far...and rightfully so. Everyone complains that China has so many faults; well maybe part of the problem is the ease at which unskilled foreigners get employed here. True expertise is what's needed, not some baboons who only come here for a good time.

Your only problem will be your visa.

getting a job and keeping a job in china is easy regardless of how awful you are . and it is not just foreigners look at all the people here who cant do their job. police security guards, cashiers, store clerks , waitresses.

there are exceptions but if you are awful you can find a home, just dont fracture the relationship with the higher ups.

I hope Lolitta2 can have a look at this post, it's not only "all the foreigners" it's in my experience a minority of foreigners that fit her description. Some foreigners are a little "elitist" what do you think Lolitta2?

Lolitta2:

I difinitely wasn't referring to "all foreigners" when answering that question. Like you said, it just refers to "some foreigners". What do I think about foreign elitists in China? I think there are elitists everywhere; it's one of those general human traits that plagues many people, regardless of where they're from. Obviously I find them annoying, but hey, I'm not trying to change human nature. Let them be...I have better things to worry about.

Yes it is, you would likely work illegally with a business or visitor visa, get crap pay at a crap school, I say go for it as nobody who's "qualified" to teach ESL would want that job anyway and I LOVE the idea of flooding the market of the cheap ass shit schools with unqualified teachers as then the schools and agents may finally start to understand... You get what you pay for! I am confident and comfortable with my experience and qualifications to the point where am not worried or intimidated by the arrival of unqualified people working here, it fills a niche in the market that qualified people wouldn't do anyway!

The companies I've worked for and am currently working for pay very well and scrutinize their employees and their credentials and call their references before hiring, demand demo classes even from experienced teachers then also put ALL teachers on 3 month probation regardless of the amount of experience they have, do quarterly reviews and all ways run development seminars and meet regularly to exchange thoughts and ideas about how to conduct better classes etc...

So, I don't feel remotely threatened by unqualified people coming to China to do a job anyone qualified wouldn't be interested in, in fact even some exposure to a native speaker in anyway is likely to be beneficial to the students, you're an oral language coach/facilitator, you don't need a TEFL, CELTA, TESOL or whatever to do what you need to do, but it would help. Help them with their pronunciation, have them speak and then answer questions to test their listening etc... You'll have classes of 40 plus so you'll be limited regardless, the system by design is not conducive to oral language learning (assuming you'll be working in the public school system)... Do what you can, have fun and ignore the elitist asses that abound in China. Good luck! Wink

Don't expect to like the place where you live and don't expect to make any money.
