Q: It's Friday night sport fans...what's happening tonight?

For so many years my Fridays consisted of lunch at a local pub before golf for lots of dough and then drinking go on.

Those sure were the days....

When I lived in QD Fridays meant rocking up to the LPG about 5 ish and getting stuck in before the brain dead music lovers arrived about 9.30.  If I hadn't had enough to drink before then, well...it didn't really matter about the music, cause I was usually pissed.

Now I live in Xinjiang and there's nowhere to go....no foreigners about.

But that's ok.  Tonight I'm going to a fancy restaurant (same ol same ol, however..) with my lovely and some friendly friends.

We'll eat well and have mangled conversation.  They'll drink baijiu and I'll stay on the beer.

So, to the question...It's Friday.....Young and old....both genders.....What's happening with you all tonight?

A bite to eat at La Villa on Hong Kong Road East, a cab ride to Freeman's and Charlie's on Bar Street for a few (LPG is passe), exit to the pavement for a leisurely - yet chilly - walk to Old Jack's across from Book City, uncase the guitar lying on top of the upright piano at Old Jack's, tune the guitar, order a round of draughts for the few of us, wait for the crowd to thicken round 10ish, perhaps 11ish, invite another muso who has just shown up to uncase Old Jack's other guitar, start jammin' some quiet shit, slowly spread it about, and soon enough - round midnight, the place is packed with howlers singing Irish songs, Beatles songs, blues, pop, Bob Dylan and folk music.

Meanwhile, Old Jack keeps bringing round the shots - on the house.

I fookin' love Qingdao.

royceH:

If you were in Jack's doing that kind of stuff while I was in QD, then we'd surely have met.  Alas, it seems, you weren't.

The 'Ol Jacks I knew had a few too many whinging Poms in it for me to frequent too often.

I actually liked to go to New Jacks.  Cool decor, good draught, real popcorn and no bugger ever there.

First time I ever went into 'Ol Jacks I commented to him that I had the exact same picture hanging over my bar at home, albeit five times as big.  'Ol Jack said no, the picture was an original painted for him and wouldn't accept what I was saying was true.

No matter.

I really only hung out at LPG because I could watch the footy there on Fri, Sat and Sun between Mar/Sept.  Although both Mandy and Phillipe were always very friendly and welcoming.  I certainly preferred Phil's choice of music over that of those who rocked up after 9pm.

It was the traffic mayhem that was the biggest contributor to my deciding to move on.  I liked QD a lot though.  Some of the Korean joints even cooked food that was close to being Korean.  Right now I'd love to be able to take my honey to that Indian place, Fatimas.  Their food was really good.

Oh, Red....have you had an omelette deluxe at Kiwi Cafe?  If not, you simply must!   Especially on an occasion when you're a little 2nd hand after a big night.  Be sure to ask Danny to add enough black sauce.

Sigh....better crack another tinnie and pine for old times....

Is it one of these days ?

Red_Fox:

Okay. How do you do that? Embed a photo into a reply? Although you kinda fucked up since the photo went waaaaayyyy beyond the margins allowed. In any case, how do you do that? Thanks in advance for the tips. - Red

Actually no Friday night is not drunk night since I don't drink.

But it will be pleasant enough with a nice  Chinese bodybuilder type that I just met.

Not the smartest but high on looks and other qualities important to a lady.

royceH:

So, that's the weekend done.  How was it for you mob?  Mine was a biggy and now, at this late time, I should be hitting the sack.  Although Xinjiang time isn't real so I think I'll crack another one.  Har..
