Each person has their own ideas.  For me, no one in China knows when my birthday is.  So, that day I do celebrate it alone, and each year have a blast.  Some years I do travel, so my birthday falls while traveling.  Other years I stay at home, and treat myself to a nice dinner at a good restaurant, no GF so there are no complains for spending too much, and also no need to give me totally useless presents that I will never wear or have a need for.

Actually, last year I did meet a real nice young lady at the restaurant.  She wanted to smoke, had a cigarrete but no lighters, so I offered her one of mine.  We ended up sitting together and dinning together, and to my surprise, she was a nationally known female singer in China, in my city to make a recording and a video for her company.

We have become good friends, and each time in Guangxi she will call me, has given me tickets for her singing engagements, and she has met my GF too.  And no, she did not know it was my birthday when we met.

If your going alone than go watch a movie and go get cake and icecream at baskin robbins. After you do that buy yourself a gift something that you always wanted and don't forget to get your birthday hat and suit.

Enjoy yourself! If you don't have to work, go to a nice park and watch the world go by. Reflect upon getting a little wiser. If you have a camera, take some photos or video.
Treat yourself to a nice dinner later on. Go out to a local pub and raise a glass to good health. Maybe go shopping.

In other words, you can pretty much do whatever you want to do! Celebrate and relax! Happy Birthday!!

thanks for the bday wishes! Very sweet. My co-workers bought me a cake and a few cards/ pressies. Very sweet of them!

@nevermind, sometimes when you're in another country and you don't really know anyone, something as 'small' as a bday can become that little more important than when you're back home.wink

How to have a one-man Birthday Blast ---the girly way!!

1. Take a day off!

2. Have a SPA massage (take notice some may need booking in advance)/ to play safe you can just get a friend- refereed foot massage place.

3. Get a Pedi and Mani - HAPPY COLORS!! Have your toes done with contrast colors in a pattern (ie pink, baby blue, pink baby blue....)

4. Go shopping and get a super sexy dress! Just Because...its your BDAY!!

5. Pick up 3 super girly movies! Your all time fave. (Eat Pray Love, Mean Girls & a cartoon--- SHIBLI'S STUDIO STUFF----you know; Totoro or something with Eng subs)

6. Buy 2 fat chunks of cake- Chocolate and Cheese Cake!! Have some slight fruity alcohol ...

7. Buy yourself a combo of Red and Pink roses and send it to yourself! With a card "Happy Birthday to ME!! WOOHOOO!!! I am having the best b'day"

Now, do all those things  in one day!!

BTW,

Happy Birthday in Advance!!

xoxo

I know this is late, but happy birthday. Smile

It's YOUR birthday, do what makes you happy. Plan something ahead of time, but don't feel you have to stick to that plan. A plan helps keep you out of that... feeling alone mode. Do something you wouldn't be able to do at home, whether it be because of money, or simply because it isn't available. Something adventurous. Something that, when you remember that birthday, you will smile, even laugh, and remember with fondness. Make it your best birthday ever.

My birthday will be about a month after I arrive, and I already have my action plan. I'm going to spend the day at the Panda Research base, pay out the bum to have my picture taken holding one, and try my hardest to get them to allow me in to play with the babies. Then I'm going to find some decent ice cream and pig out. Best birthday EVER!

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
