Q: is jade/ other precious stones overpriced over there?

I've heard that things like jade  are on sale everywhere over there but they are more expensive and kept overpriced despite the fact of having enough of the stuff to fill a darn swimming pool. Is the jade market sorta like diamonds over there where prices are kept inflated?

Jade is a difficult thing to price. A Jade necklace can cost 5rmb or 5000rmb, and it takes an expert to tell the difference.

There is an annual jade fair in HK. Worth looking it up on the net. Some interesting articles about it there.

But nope, Jade is not cartell controlled. Its only worth what people will pay for it.

Scots is right. HK precious metals (and stones) retail is at least 20 -25% cheaper than on Mainland.

Bring cash Rmb for exchange to HK$, or use China Merchants Bank Gold Visa/Mc ATM card.

In one of the Anshan's (Liaoning) parks, there is a friggin' jade hill, some 40m high. Just need chisel and tools to get some necklace for my ex-GF. Am I not real hands-on person?

I've always wanted nice jade but the good stones seem really, really expensive.
