be aware of the following:

1) what the ad says is only that -what it says: the reality will be different

2) the 14-16/week does not include class preparation time

3) have you been told it will take you an hour to travel to and from work? If so, it could actually be longer.

4) your working hours could be awkward - eg 1 hour in the morning, 2 in late afternoon

5) during your evenings, you could be too tired to do much: if you are in a public school you could be teaching classes of between 40-60 students

6) any other work you do is not legal. your work visa and RP is tied to your school. If caught doing illegal work, you could be fined and deported.

7) modelling work is risky - you will be exploited unless you are familiar with the ins-and outs

8) your physical appearance will be in your favour, as most Chinese parents are superficial

Unless you work every hour you can, on that salary, you won't earn as much as you hope if you are only staying a year

Not a lot of money. Basic deal. 5500RMB and no meals, one hour bus trip....my take? Find another job. There's plenty who will pay you more in the bigger cities. Summer hols will be over by end Aug so you'll be in time for the new semester. Try international schools, rich parents, spoilt kids but better money.

I got a better job offer than that (by leaps and bounds), and I'm deaf. So... unless you're completely hard-up for cash and can't get anything else... keep trying?

Mr matatyahu1987, it appears that you have the right attitude which is a win but please excuse me while I think about this job offer once more and giggle......ahhhh, that's better. In my most humble opinion, when objectively assessing your offer, the term "Blows Goats" comes immediately to mind.

* One hour transportation, but shared accommodation for free... Sounds like the boss bought a flat as investment in some compound a bit outside of the downtown and keep it occupied with people. The more birds knocked with one stone, the better ^^ Just my educated guess, don't take my words too seriously. I would ask a lot of questions about the shared accommodation.

* If you have to teach from 19 to 21, don't be surprised.  And cross your fingers to have a bus to go back home at that time, or it's going to be by taxi and much more expansive.

What a crappy job you have here, for 5500 with free accomodation I wouldn't even bother to set up an online interview, what a joke. Except for some rare schools the salaries in China for ESL teaching (and other languages as well) have no changed since 2008 at best, but the cost of life has been multiplied by 2 or 3 since then.

I would say the money offered is ok if you are coming for the experience and adventure, but is nowhere near enough if you are trying to save money.

Honestly, assuming your from the west, you could make more money staying at home and flipping burgers or working in a factory for a year.

Yes, if your rent is free, of course you can live cheap in China. But it's not easy. You will soon get sick of eating cheap noodles and dumplings . The culture shock can be overwhelming and before long you will probably be heading for the western bars downtown, where prices are near enough western.

I would also be careful about the Z visa offer. Don't get on a plane without that Z in your passport. I have a suspicion your employer will tell you to arrive on a tourist visa and he will change it to a Z visa here.  You don't have the required 2 years experience for a Z visa, so lies will have to be told somewhere for you to get one.

Yup, if you want to save money you need a better paying job.

You should never budget for illegal work as part of your income. Modeling especially.

If you work here for some time you always have another option to stay here for your masters degree on a CSC scholarship. It will be beneficial for you. Getting that scholarship is not much difficult if you are in China. You won't need any money for the degree and now the degree earned in China not a bad choice according to me. This year I arranged for the CSC scholarship for 5 of my friends and relatives.

16 hrs per week spread out across 5 days = 3.2 hrs a day + 2 hrs bus ride= 5.2 hours a day

5500RMB\21.75 work days per month = 253 RMB per day/6.07 exchange rate into USD=41.75 USD per work day or 8 dollars an hour. I would stay in bed.
