Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: job recruiters wanting money up front
I'm getting job recruiters wanting fees paid in advance. I told them I'm not paying fees. They say this deposit is only there to ensure the commitment from our clients. Are these places all scammers?

I've refused to pay for any "service" up front. There's been times where it's caused the end service to be delayed because of the days wasted with back and forth. But there's been times I've saved hundreds of RMB when they come back a day or two later and admit they can't actually do what they were supposed to do.
NO!!!! You can find a job on your own, dammit. Don't make me cross the lake and kick you!
Wait til late January, early Feb and there will be openings everywhere. People don't show up, or go home and decide not to return. They'll be desperate. Strike then

Teaching (with a side of ass kicking) others on where best to strike in the Middle Kingdom.... You're training is nearly complete young Hugs.
First of all if they are looking to hiring you, why would they even need you to pay them? They need to pay you it should be the other way around. I'm not sure if the type of employers you are dealing with are scammers but a scam is a scheme for swindling people and that is what it looks like is happening. imo. I've never heard of people that are hiring that want you to pay for the fees unless it is a class of some sort and most of the time they are willing to pay those off or make it like a loan where it comes out of your pay after you have gotten your salary.

Wow, somebody must be getting scammed a lot if they put thumbs down. Oh well!
HugAPanda:
Michael Thomas, I appreciate the fact that your answer gave me an aneurism, so I gave you a thumbs down! :)
You never pay for work in China, the company pay the agent not you plus dont use agents, its easy just finding your own job really
mattaya:
Yes, I agree with your answer paulmartin. I would agree with you on avoiding agents. They see a lot of people and can be very choosy and picky. imo. I gave you a thumbs up because your answer made a lot of sense to me.
Ted, your instincts serve you well, they are indeed scammers! caveat emptor!
Do not pay any agent in China that is asking you for money to find you a job. You will be perfectly scammed, particularly from one well-known agent scammer in Wuhan.
The above-posters are all correct. The job market will decidedly heat up just before the Spring Term 2012 begins and all of no-shows, midnight runners, etc., etc. do their thing. That's the best time -- at least for this term.
Try our company: www.findworkabroad.com - Completely free recruitment service for foreigners in China
most of the work offered by FINDWORKABROAD.COM is illegal, you will not get a working visa, you will most probably be offered a business visa which is illegal, these people are no better than blood sucking agents..............the schools that employ you are NOT ENTITLED TO DO SO.....and when you get caught you will be deported and blacklisted and will ruin your chances of getting another visa for another country, so all there fancy listings are false........."its a lovely company that wont charge you any taxes"...dont be fooled by these bloodsucking parasites...............

Well, I don't have personal experience of this group, but I did get worried when I read this in one of their ads - "..should you wish to hold a working visa." What - there's an option???
Also, I note lots of jobs are 40 hours per week... and so the pay is relatviely low (I think) at only 8-10K/month.
I was invited to teach in EDENVALE International English school in Shenmu, This a a place near Xian, In Yulin. Shaanxi Province. There are two Chinese Boss for this School, English name is Jennifer and Liza. They have two Chinese Staff named Snow and Anny who are helping them. The complete subject began like this...They promised me a salary of 8000/-RMB. and an accommodation also a work Visa. When I reached there, I was so impressed the way they treated me. Everything changed when it came to my salary date. They Want me to walk up and down with them to give away flyers. They are not ready to pay my salary and they told me they can pay only 6000/-RMB. Which they delayed every month. They promised to pay me after I complete 6 months. I agreed coz Shenmu is very far and To shift back, I need to pay a lot of money. Later it came to my visa issue, they kept me waiting until the last 10 days of expiry which they promised me to take care of all the expenses and finally they told me they cannot do. Its was a real shock, none of the Boss had guilty conscious and their attitude was very rude. They never paid nor supported. I did my visa myself and the most biggest and tragic Highlight I like to share is the school was inspected and I was taken to the police station, they treated me very rudely. I never knew what is the problem, then a kind officer told me that this an unlicensed school. I almost had a heart attack. The officer after keeping me in the station for long 7 hours, released me and asked me to leave the city in next two days. Me with my family was so upset. I asked for my due salary, the bosses completely ignored, I told them I have a contract. They told me to go to the police station coz they have no interest to pay. Literally broken, we left the city.
The biggest joke is that before me there are several teachers cheated by these Bosses.
Dear Freinds, my intention of this post to be aware of those cheats. There are lot of unauthorized school, do not trust their contract.
The School Address Once again-- EDENVALE International English School, Shenmu, Near YULIN, XIAN. Shaanxi Province...BEware Friends...
