Q: Just how polluted is the ocean water in Shenzhen?

For those who don't know, Shenzhen has the world's fourth largest port. As I was swimming in the ocean earlier this summer, I could see the cargo ships not too far off floating about.

So to anyone who knows - what's the pollution like in the Shenzhen water - how bad is every unintentional gulp of seawater down there? Numbers appreciated

You will never know any official numbers.  China won't allow that information to be known.

Not only is Shenzhen the 4th biggest port in China, but it is also the dumping area of the Pearl River which flows through some of the most industrialized parts of S. China.

It isn't as poluted as the Ganji river, but it isn't that far off.  Thankfully there are some good tides that keep the gunk from sticking around too long.
