Q: know any Chinese folk stories?

I've tried having students tell me Chinese folk stories, but they're never translated very well, and seem more like legends explained in a single sentence rather than any story with build or payoff or anything.

The 3 I've heard:

1.  Green hat.  Once upon a time, a guy wore a green hat and his wife cheated on him.

2.  Match Girl.  Once upon a time, a girl was selling matches in winter.  No one bought any, she was poor and died from cold.  Also, she had a vision of her grandma before she died.

3.  Lychee Emporer.  Once upon a time, there was an emporer or his wife who loved lychees.

Anyone can explain these stories better than I did above?  Or any other interesting stories not listed above?  Some are hard to google due to their vagueness.

I quite like the "shield and the spear" story which is supposed to be the derivation of "maodun" (the Chinese word for self contradictory). The basis for the story is some guy in ancient times selling shields and spears. He was happy to proclaim that the shields he was selling could not be penetrated by any spear in the world. Meanwhile, the spears that he was selling were so good that there was not a shield in the world that they could not pierce.

surpriseI always enjoyed the folk story that was played in the Dragon the Bruce lee story. I guess it was based on truth and reality. The story was that there were demons that wanted to get the first born boy or child that was a boy. That kind of reminds me of Rumplestiltskin a little. So in the story the Dad, Bruce's father dresses him up like a girl and names him after a girls name to hide his true identity. It was very interesting! (Drunk!

He he, I said: "identity"!

Why did your parents dress you up like a little girl and more important, why do you still dress like that?
