Q: Lenseless glasses - popular trend with Chinese girls?
Been noticing a lot of these around all of a sudden and have been fighting urge to punch said girls in face. Mucho difficult.
They are quite probably the stupidest fashion statement in human history, IMO. Apparently, though, it makes their eyes look bigger and that's the purpose of them.

On the contrary, I think it's a statement about intellect itself. Glasses have always been seen as an indicator of intellect, lenseless glasses are a statement about the ludicrous nature of that assumption. Pol Pot, in his fear of intellectuals, apparently ordered the deaths of anyone who wore glasses. You'd have thought, if they were that smart, they'd have taken them off when they saw him coming.

If it is a statement of intellect, it fails miserably. I'm left thinking "just how stupid are you?" whenever I see someone wearing a pair.
Whenever I see this which is everyday I am left thinking what would Mao do?

This is just a stupid fad perticular to China.
My gf bought a few pairs and I demanded that she never wear them around me...she was upset but complied.
Stupidest thing ever.
Girls wear them to be "cute" but it doesn't work at all, however when a guy wears them..well he just needs smack in the head.
I would never do this myself, but I have seen it, and think that on some the glasses are a nice addition to their look. Glasses are not just used nowadays for their use but also for fashion, so it makes a little bit of sense why some would want to wear them for this purpose.

I agree that for some eyeglasses are a fashion statement. On some gals they look great depending on the style, while on other gals not good. I remember the lenseless eyeglasses in South Korea.
in Poland they are also popular... among some secondary school girls (age 12-15)
(we are now talking about this "simple plastic" ones, right?)
if we talk about glasses as a fashion - it is absolutely OK, but that glasses also should be fitted to face shape etc... (just like a real ones, only difference is "0" lens)

I don't see it as any different to wearing a black bra under a white blouse, it's just fashion, not stupid, not clever, just fashion.
I have noticed the glassless glasses since I arrived in China 3 years ago and I think they are silly, especially when older women wear them.
Commented above that the lenseless glasses trend was a statement about intellect, but actually I thinks it one on attractiveness. Many Chinese girls consider glasses to be unattractive, which is why it is so common to see girls who need glasses, squinting, instead of wearing them. Now THAT is stupid.
Looks totally dumb to me. My stepson also tried it a couple of years ago and I finally convinced him how stupid he looked. Every time I see a Chinese girl with them I want to ask her why, but I don,t have good enough language skills yet. all the ones I have seen are pretty girls who don't need anything other than what nature has given them so why do it?

It could be a metaphor about the emptyness of modern day materialism. The frames would represent the roles that a near sighted society pressures their young to fill. And the lack of lenses could be a symbol of the freedom they hope is within their site and not a mirage skewed by the lenses of traditionalism and world views.
Or it could be that they think they look cuter in photographs with frames as empty as their heads.
Fashion does not have to be logical. Look at some of the fashions from home, Wearing baseball hats backwards or sideways or over your ears or wearing your pants so low that the crotch is half way to your knees and your underwear are almost totally exposed.
Now to wear glasses without lens, they would cost less, but as anyone that wears glasses for real knows, keeping glasses clean is a pain. I have a special coating on mine that are supposed to repell dust and finger prints and look like invisible lens, they are the worse things I've ever had, they get milky looking cause they get so dirty and fast.
BTW I like glasses on women, glasses are fashionable and styles change.

Health is more important than these so called fashion.I don't see all tthe fashions are wise,many of them are stupid,gals wear like a men.LAR:

Contact lenses are not stupid. For many people they are great..especially for those that are athletic and like to play sports. They are only harmful to your eyes if you do not follow the wise use of wearing and keeping them clean. I know this from personal experience. (Corneal ulcers many years ago. :() As long as you follow your eye doctors advice and instructions, you'll be fine with contact lenses. But, they aren't for everyone.
I thought it was pretty funny the first time I saw that...but then again like with all new fads will fade.
I want to do a Moe from the 3 stooges and poke them in the eyes when I see those stupid lenseless frames. On a plus note it is a good buffer for the more vapid chinese girls.
I need to wear glasses and I hate it. They DONT need to wear them and they wear them.
