It’s officially an offence now to LEAVE England
BY TDB
Starting on Monday, anyone who leaves England must submit papers making a certified declaration of their reason for leaving. ...
After four hours of debate yesterday in the House of Commons, the United Kingdom has approved an emergency measure that will, among other restrictions, fine Brits who LEAVE the country without a qualifying reason.
Ironically, the British government insists they can legally impose these new rules because of authority that was granted to them under a law called the Public Health Act… which just happened to be passed in… 1984.
Starting on Monday, anyone who leaves England must submit papers making a certified declaration of their reason for leaving. The authorities will then retain the discretion to fine travelers £5,000— nearly $7,000, if the reason isn’t valid.

Didn't ZH have a field day criticizing China because they allowed their people to travel and spread the virus back when the covid was just starting? And now they're criticizing the UK for not allowing people to travel and spread the virus?
icnif77:
Back then travelling out of infected area/China was a planned event, but you know my stance on that.
While, don't you find such a news from UK alarming? What was that movie ... '1984' or '1948' .. I ain't sure on proper set of numbers.
It isn't about Cofid and spreading the virus around the world. It's about leaving UK for the greener, less restrictive pastures ...
I am under the influence from FX, i.e. crypto trading and restrictions in place for UK citizens.
UK citizens cannot register to crypto exchange (based out of UK) 'cause there are certain restrictions in place for crypto traders in/from UK. Now, we are not talking about avoiding tax or anything like that. Foreign exchange must report capital gains to the trader's original country, but UK simply prohibits trading/investing into crypto.
Many traders use smart phones for trading and they register with their phones/sim cards. Once, phone number is based in UK, FX exchange denies service to such traders, so there's walk-around in place:
"If you're from UK, don't register with the phone no., but submit yer email address, only and use a VNP for trading/investing."
I mean, we are speaking about Great Britain, not N. Horea or Vladi-stan ...
UK is fast becoming very controlled society ... more and more, UK remains me on China with need a permit-to-leave-the-city thingy.

Yeah I've read 1984, several times actually... I don't know anything about the FX thing, I assume they gave a reason for it, maybe it's reasonable, maybe they're being arseholes, I don't know.
The virus thing though....my point was that when this kicked off the whole world said China, WTF are you doing letting people travel and spread the virus around, and it's a reasonable question.
If China was being irresponsible, or in your opinion deliberately spreading the virus around the world how is it ok for the UK - or any other country to do exactly the same thing? And they have been, that's why it's such a massive problem almost everywhere in the world now.
When there's a pandemic going on that is mutating into more contagious varients, and when countries are losing control of it, health systems are under huge pressure, economies under huge pressure etc, don't you think that at some point you've got to do the obvious, common sense thing and say 'sorry people, we have to stop travel while we fight this virus'.
