Q: Looking for new teaching job, anyone else sick and tired of the tricks and cheating by some schools

In the last week or so I must have been to numerous schools and I am still shocked after almost 3 years of some of the tricks and scams these schools try to pull on new employees.

One school even said I would have to walk 300m down the street to use a toilet as they don't provide toilet facilities.

i had a university state in a contract that they may be allowed to pay 30 days late for cash flow problems, when i asked about this, they said they have never had to pay late, then i had to ask, so why is it in the contract for, in case of war , revolution , epidemic, total blank face, no explanation.

It is interesting that you have been here for three years (according to previous posts), but just finding this out.

Admittedly, it is getting worse as time goes on. The government sets new rules and regulations to get more highly qualified teachers, and the schools see this as a challenge to be defied.

As I recall, you claimed to have a finance background. If that is the case, forget about English, and look for jobs with universities teaching content subjects in foreign finance or economics degrees. I had a good gig at SWUFE in Chengdu, at one stage.

You can make much more money (legally) doing private tutoring than teaching, which the university will approve if you are a competent teacher in the subject/s.

English teachers these days are considered open game by the schools, and unless you have  proper teaching qualifications and an airtight contract, no government agency or foreign embassy will be able to help you in any way.

Also beware of anybody professing to be from a union. It is a scam.

yes traveler, it is getting worse every year on the contracts, the little things are adding up, just read a contract offer that left out the return airfare completely. i may have to stay with the international program im doing for students to canada but im in a city with no decent coffee an no italian food. so i keep looking. based on the way chinese companies do business, my heart is really not in the idea of passing on my knowledge of finance.

That's true about the toilet thing. They probably do have toilets but it's designed for kids to use not adults. I've seen that too. Although I did use the kids bathroom once and there ended up being no flusher so the bathroom reeked of the smell that culminated from the bathroom area as it gently drifted into my classroom. heart

Yeah all schools in the countryside, just outside of ZZ, she became the principal of all of them because no one really wanted the job.  Shes probably the most trustworthy, honest and reliable person I've met in 3 years in China.  Seriously if anyone is looking for a job in ZZ I can get you like 8-10k a month, apt, flight, just teaching a few hours in a public school every week

Why does anyone bother with trying to find a legal job in China...  Just do it all part time and cash in hand.. forget the VISA issues.. just marry a Chinese girl... problem solved..I've done it now for 4 years...

You can send me a private message.  My old public middle school is looking for a teacher.  No games from the school and the students are good. I worked there for one year so I know where you will live and who you will deal with.  Best of luck!

Sorry to go off on a tandem, but it seems schools want to try and pay even less this year too, and that despite the apparent intended exodus of foreign teachers this summer (apparently).

Just looking on the jobs section here today.

12k max for a kindergarten in Beijing and only 5k for a flight bonus.
