Q: Lost bank card?

So last week I lost my bank card, this morning I went to get a new card at the branch where I opened my account and they did all the paper work and then told me it would take TEN TO FIFTEEN days to get a new card. TWO WEEKS?? To get MY MONEY? So I asked if they can just give me my money over the counter, because after all it is MY MONEY!! but they said no.. Is this how it works in China? How does anyone get anything done? What if I really needed that money and couldn't, say, eat without it..

It must be possible to get the money if you show your passport. To a different clerk. If you can get your money somehow, then instead of waiting weeks for the new card, just open a new account, then you can get the card right away.

Nothing takes two weeks in China. Either it is faster or will never happen. (China Post excepted)

haha don't mean to laugh, I have done this a couple of times in China. Here is what I did, you must go to the branch where the account was opened, take someone that speaks Chinese and is willing to argue on your behalf and insist you meet with the manager. Each time I have done this I am issued a new card that day. Only the manager can override the computer and allow a new card be issued the same day.

This wound me the f**k up when it happened to me too.

It's my bloody money!

This was in the Minsheng bank. I had to wait the two weeks. Fortunately my school at the time coughed up an advance.

Ya, I had my passport and everything. Although I was dealing with an intern. No matter what I said she just kept repeating the same thing over and over. And the only way to do it was open a new account and then transfer the money from my old account to the new one ONLINE. for which I needed to have brought to the bank with me, that little online banking number creator thing. I hate starting a sentence with 'back home...' but back home you can get a new card within like 10 mins for about 10RMB. So easy.
