Q: Lost in translation… the best translation apps, dictionaries, free websites to learn Chinese

Hey, I am sure that this topic must have already been discussed over and over again, but new apps are constantly being released, so I would be more than thankful to get some more insights into that. On my side, I am only familiar with PLECO, but would love to discover alternatives, if any.

Experienced International Sales Chinese Girlfriend, 3.0. Make sure you get the one with "Studied and travelled overseas for a few years" add-on.

(But, be careful... most of these apps can be very expensive - usually much more than the cost of the phone itself! AND, you can't have more than 1 of these apps in operation at any one time - or there will be serious conflicts. However, some of the other benefits can make up for this if installed correctly.

VPN and Google Translate. It has video translation that converts Chinese characters into English text right before your eyes - very handy for reading a menu. It also has voice translation which seems pretty accurate - some grammar mistakes.

Rosetta Stone for learning Chinese, computer only I think, not mobile.

All of that is free if you know where to look.

Re: Rosetta Stone...

a) not free;

b) sucky! RS does have the advantage of characters, and also (if you set it up right) pronunciation. Personally, I recommend Pimsleur, using the audio-lingual method, usually combined with other tools like Linkword (for grammar). But, again, not free.
