I am relocating to SZ and contemplating getting health insurance:
I am late 40 single male, no history of diseases.
Like to know what you paid out of pocket for medical cares in SZ (broken bones, hospital visit,...). In some accounts I was told the cost is low and not worth the premium charged by the known western insurance companies (which is in the low to mid $3000 in my case)
The alternative is getting the local plans offered by agents when I get there. What are the tips of saving health care costs in china? I speak mandarin Chinese fluently so I can handle local doctors.
I am assuming drugs are lot cheaper than US and can be had without prescription. Is it true or false?
If you want to get an insurance here, just make sure it is applicable to foreigners. Because some agents will say it is applicable to foreigners just to have a sale. It is good to know you can speak the language fluently but still ask someone to translate whatever papers they will give you. It is better to be safe and sure than sorry.
And yes we can purchase some western medicines even without prescriptions. And the cost is not even more than 20RMB.
I am a Chinese American, I think I can pass for local resident with some acting. Do you need a local ID to get care?
Sounds like buying some cheapie oh-you-got-run-over-by-truck local policy and take care of the out patient needs by self medicating with the help from WebMD and the like with widely available meds in SZ.
Agree? What about dental? Regular clean up expensive?
