I went for my medical yesterday , but they did a urine test. I was wondering why. I noticed that the urine test, can pick up so many different ailments. Not to mention drug use. Was the urine test for medical conditions such as for kidney stones or for drug use.

I've had a lot of medical tests for visa purposes and this is the first time I've heard of a urine test being part of it.
Hotwater:
I've had to piss in a pot for every Chinese medical. My guess is it checks for medical issues.
Stiggs:
That makes sense, nothing else is standard across the country, why would the medical test be?
I always had to have a blood sample taken, they check for HIV and Hepatitus . Maybe that was in place of the urine test.
Hotwater:
I had the blood test as well amount other prods and pokes. We once had a full medical at work...results all in Chinese. Mine had 3 things highlighted that my wife translated. High platelet level (but within European norms), fatty liver (also within Euro norms) & something else I can't remember. Nothing to worry about fortunately
Lemon Soda water. Haven't you ever wondered why Lemon juice is so cheap?
But seriously... seriously???
I thought a urine test was standard, given the number of things it can detect (including drugs)...
The bigger question would be - why do both urine AND blood test?
Doctors can know over 287 things with your urine and more with women. I am happy they check.
Maybe if they do detect drugs it goes secretly on your record....or it could be for something less nefarious.
I'm pretty sure they don't test for weed. I have been urine tested in china multiple times and can attest.
I had to give urine at the hospital every year i went there for the medical test. They're really taking the piss (i'll get my coat).
