Q: MH370: Ended up in the South Indian Ocean...latest update.

Sad news. They've concluded that the plane end up in the South Indian Ocean near Perth based on Imarsat records.

strange how the american navy had stayed in the indian ocean the whole time, like they knew something but did not want to make malaysia lose face or let the world know what their satellite technology could actually do.

DrMonkey:

The Indian Ocean is ... *big*. If you don't know what you should look for, you can easily not see it, in such a large area.

I am pretty sure the American satellites can see far more detailed objects than 30 feet, weather permitting.

Being able to see 30 feet objects is useless in spotting if North Korea is moving a pile of vegetables or a nuke around.

A couple of days after the plane was lost, there were reports that Taiwan had picked up rumors of a terrorist attack on Beijing. Could it be that this was that, which had failed and China is holding back information due to national security reasons ?

They actually haven't fished any debris from the water yet, not that I am questioning what people can read from satellites, but still.

Now the big question is, why was the plane there? Lots of people praise the pilots skills, had there been a technical emergency on the plane he would not have gone that way. Hijacking seems like a probable scenario

Nessquick:

as I said before, Chinese passengers do not want go back home, and kidnap plane and route it to Australia...

We will most certainly never know the whole story of what happened there. So why bother.

But what is now in the open is Beijing's crybaby strategy and constant belligerance every time something happens involving nationals it wouldn't give two shits about at home.
I'm not saying they shouldn't care, I'm saying that if they really did, most of it would have happened through diplomatic and discreet channels, instead of continuous press feeds.
If I was an airline I'd feel wary of transporting Chinese.

I feel for the families, but I agree they never miss an opportunity for point-scoring against a foreign entity. Over 1000 men lost their lives in coal mining accidents in 2013, where is their press coverage? (of course for the US you could use School Shooting deaths vs. Juvenile Diabetes deaths and come up with a similar point about overreacting to unusual things while treating "mundane" deaths as business as usual.

They need to realize they devalue their word when they act like this. I remember a couple years back there was a disaster in New Zealand and they asked that the families of Chinese nationals get more money than everyone else because of their one-child policy. Makes them look like a bunch of beggars.

Or last year with that landing incident at SFA (or was it LA). Shitstorm was defused because it turned out the two casualties couldn't be bothered to wear security belt.

CCTV News at about lunch time reported about the relatives of the passengers. They said (and this is as close to a word by word quote as I can come) "The Malaysian relatives are accepting the fact all passengers have perished, while the Chinese relatives all are in denial and asking for proof"

China = breedingground for distrust. I am not saying they shouldn't have more information, but today it was confirmed by satellite data that the plane is somewhere in the South Indian Ocean. I am not sure any "experts" have commented on this yet, but I doubt survival at sea without any tools is viable for more than a couple of days at best if you have something to cling on to.

KimOnach:

You mean, for those who'd survive the stampede at the airlock then the fight for the few remaining lifeboats that weren't torn apart?

Scandinavian:

No, I think even for non-Chinese it would be very difficult to survive 14 days at sea (I actually don't know if the door life rafts of planes have any kind of emergency supplies or if they are purely floatation devices)

KimOnach:

I know what you mean, and I tend to agree. I just think the "having Chinese onboard" factor implies most passengers would likely get killed before having a chance to try out their long term survival skills. I don't think the life boats are designed with supplies like food or water, I mean, it's 2014, who would just "lose" a whole civil aircraft for more than a couple of hours, right.

Word on the campfire i.e. Chinese social media is that the Malaysian government are concealing hijacking and failed negotiations. I've followed the story closely from the beginning. Time seems to be an issue with the Chinese, yet the Malysian gov said they would not release info until 100% verified. Then there is the search areas and more wasted time saying they knew where it was. Anyway, seems like a big massive victim card here to me. Value of life, if it was US citizens it would have been different, what's the gov going to do. Almost like they are poking the cinders, calling for action, bit like the no fly zone when US and Japanese planes flew through.

I sympatise deeply with the victims and families and yes the Malaysian gov possibly know more than let out and MAYBE finding the blackbox will reveal a hijack but it could also release and prove other theories e.g. fire, rapid or slow decompression.

So anger and calls for action on the correct occurrence, fair play. This could be proved wrong and therefore it would be embarrassing. If the Malay gov did conceal - holy crap that is one serious issue, not only with China, Asia but with the world. Let's see.

I love the Chinese mouthpieces. Same exact things my students said, after their silly accusations "America and Malay, are working together to hide what happened."  I asked them why would the US and Malay work together on this. Their response was "Malay is hiding the fact that they were negotiating with the pilot and the US knows there is a problem with the plane". For the non-expats let me explain why this does not make sense, either the plane went down because of the pilot OR because of mechanical defect, it can't be both!!!!. Some even say this is a conspiracy because the passengers were Chinese. They claim other countries did not want to find the crash site because they did not want to save Chinese people. I asked them if they heard about the Japanese ship that rescued Chinese from their burning boat, "yes" There were other passengers on the plane you know ... no  fucking logic.

But they all claim we will never know the truth.

Not so fast, when they recover the black  boxes they will know what was said in the cockpit which could disprove the BS about the pilot talking to Malay officials. The data recorders can rule out certain  theories .

This incident is leading me to really hate the people here.

DrMonkey:

I just imagine that warped logic going on for decades

Black boxes are recovered, conclusions X, Y and Z are made => "They substituted the real black boxes with fake ones ! Nobody have seen the black boxes, it's lies !"

It turns out the whole thing had nothing to do with the nationality of any passenger => "It's a cover-up, of course, the majority of the passengers is Chinese, so it have to have a link !"

Just look at any conspiracy theory to see that logic at play.

So true my man. There's a tendency to forget all the other nationalities indeed. Like in the families recent statement for example, no mention of other nationalities. All about China.

The conspiracy did explain to me why the Chinese families were so angry and righteous. Supposedly the Americans know hijacking was the case. They did pull a ship out of looking in the Strait early - I haven't looked at US news but is this going to hit the presses or not, certainly not on UK news at the moment.

Anyway, I'd just leave it off until the blackbox is found. The locator from the US is on the way I believe from Perth.

It can't be the case that the Malay gov ended/failed in negotiation with an alleged hijacker(s), had looked at the flight passenger list and said oh all these Chinese, their life is cheap (words of a Chinese person that I know) blah blah lets leave it and pretend we don't know anything beyond our last military radar spotting and lets divulge that info later. Of course there are questions like why not search straight away in the Strait, didn't it take time to interpret/verify this was in fact the plane - fuel to the conspiracy fire anyway. Without Immarsat data they wouldn't have had a clue where it was. Even at the 2 arc stage (40 degrees) gave Australia the chance to lead the southern arc search (and well done to them I will add, organised, intelligent, professional etc), was somebody relying on this to not exist, for a cover up i.e. Malay gov. Unlikely.

They are in the sh1t if this is the case. My main point is that all the conspiracy against China stuff can be off-set or counter argued with informed knowledge. Leave it to the search/rescue/recovery teams at this stage.

Apologies for the messy look, wrote it and posted it, don't know what happened.

I'm so thankful my students actually trust and believe what I tell them. A few of them came into class repeating things they heard from their parents and CCTV like "Snowden said America can spy on anyone, at anytime, but they can't find a big plane. They did this so they could test Chinese technology and see how good our satellites are at tracking and locating." After a mental jaw drop, I quickly pointed out the reasons why America does not give a shit about Chinese satellite technology, informed them on how satellites actually work, and why America is better than China. I some times feel bad spilling American propaganda in class, but they love it and really believe America is better, so I follow suit.

Update - it would appear that this "we have found it by satellites" was a little premature, as they've moved the search zone by about 1000kms!

Very interesting!!!

ChengduPat:

I believe where they were searching was a call from the Ozzies in the beginning, they analysed previous weather conditions, possible currents for example and worked off two possible flight paths into the Southern Indian Ocean. This was also based on fuel allowance. The search area had to be honed somehow as it was gigantic. They started spotting objects by satellite, they were sure to only call them objects.

Think what they want to do is narrow to the possible location of the main part of the plane and based on new info i.e. it was flown faster than originally thought, x should mark the general spot, the new area. Get the blackbox locator in and maybe there will be some luck.

Weird though that there's no confirmation objects are wreckage. Also, fascinating the way they can find the impact area based on debris location by back tracking with weather conditions and currents. Hopefully they'll have a good search today.

in true Chinese fashion... a good deal ... after visiting Kuala Lumpur, then Perth, they will without doubt need to see what is being done to help their missing family member in Britain and France.... then on to NTSB headquarters in USA. These inspections will have to be carried out every year until a satisfactory outcome for them has been achieved.

Be sure to supply the best hotels and restaurants or you will again feel the wrath of the Chinese tourist.

Ozzies go in the search with 'black box' detector:

http://news.yahoo.com/black-box-detector-join-malaysian-jet-search-00344...

PERTH, Australia (AP) — A warship with an aircraft black box detector was set to depart Australia on Sunday to join the search for the missing Malaysian jetliner, a day after ships plucked objects from the Indian Ocean to determine whether they were related to the missing plane. None were confirmed to be from the plane, leaving searchers with no sign of the jet more than three weeks after it disappeared.

However, same report on the teli specified 'black box search is fruitless, unless they find site of crash first, and then search the sea bed for bb'.

icnif77:

450 M EUR as estimate cost to find the plane, if ever! Commentator on teli was suggesting, 'we must accept decision, we'll find the plane doesn't matter the costs'.

With the amount of rubbish in that part of the ocean, it's going to be another long haul search. They can't even confirm if those satellite images were in fact parts of the plane. So, in actual fact, they are nowhere closer to finding the plane than they were 3 weeks ago. It too 2 years to find the French plane and I'm wondering how long they will take this time.

http://www.globalresearch.ca/disappearance-of-malaysian-airlines-flight-...

As mystery deepened over the fate of the Boeing 777 and its 239 passengers and crew, most of them Chinese, it became clear that highly classified military technology might hold the key.

Ultimately, the only country with the technical resources to recover the plane – or at least its black box recorder, which could lie in water several miles deep – may be the United States. Its deep-sea vehicles ultimately hauled up the wreckage of Air France 447 after its 2009 crash into a remote region of the South Atlantic.

However, in December, 2013, the USAtlas V rocket was launched carrying the spy satellite NROL-39 for the National Reconnaissance Office, an intelligence agency which is often overshadowed by the notorious National Security Agency (NSA), only it scoops data via spy satellites in outer space. The “NROL-39 emblem” is represented by the Octopus a versatile, adaptive, and highly intelligent creature. Emblematically, enemies of the United States can be reached no matter where they choose to hide. The emblem boldly states “Nothing is beyond our reach”. This virtually means that the tentacles of America’s World Octopus are spreading across the globe to coil around everything within their grasp, which is, well, everything (Source: Voice of Moscow). Yet, the US with such capabilities remained silent. Why?

I therefore call upon Malaysian mass media to be courageous and initiate such queries as only the US and other intelligence agencies can give definitive answers to the above 15 questions.

Matthias Chang is a prominent Malaysian lawyer and author, who served as political secretary and adviser to former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.

icnif77:

'USA is silent 'cause you (China) let 'Up-yours' leave HK'.

I'll stop here, cause I started to think about possible/most likely causes for the plane's 'accident'.......
