Q: Missing Christmas: What holidays do you miss from your home country? (expat question)
I miss Christmas the most as an American. I do not miss the commercial part of the holiday, but rather the "spirit" of the festive season. As a Christian, I miss the community of church, the reminder of my purpose here, and the love/charity that is shared. I really do not miss any other holiday season.
Off the cuff responses are always welcome to my questions. Adds flavor to life. Ha Ha.
When in China, it was my national holiday.
The meeting for singing and socialising.
celebrating the 'national spirit'
(something that our governemnt is hell-bent on sucking from us now)
being with family and friends is essential for happiness and health.

Christmas,,,, we actually had the home w/ the wood-burning Fireplace in the Den, Christmas Tree thing going on,, cold weather outside,, but not the absolute freezing kind,, just cold enough so u knew this was a special part of the year.... lying in front of the Christmas tree sharing the feeling,, the special way only a young kid can feel about that,,, sharing w/ my cat,, haha,, not sure if I raised that cat or if she raised me,,, her name may not be spellable,,, but it was like 'wooo geee',,,,,, I bet she gets a kick from being remembered and spoken of from China, thirty some odd years after her passing..... Those were the Days my Friend......
While I was in China, my host made it sure, I won't forget Christmas and New Year holidays overall.
Since, I've always lived in school's sponsored flat, school was also in charge for paying of the utility bills.
On some 3 occasions as I recall, I was without electricity for Christmas ... 'cause school didn't pay the bill on time.
No-electricity event happened only once per whole contract duration. I consider it as some traditional Chinese thingy ...
Marry Christmas ... with abundance of Easter eggs ... to all!
my first Christmas in America in my own place in 12 years, my daughter has a bunch of gifts, fireplace, and a nippy -4 C in South Atlanta. I'm getting old, no other siblings or relatives still around but it's still great. A little brandy and Mannheim Steamroller and put together a puzzle if I can get my daughter to stop playing with "LOL" toys. Waiting to be a dad to my 50's was a good decision.
Merry Christmas, miss China sometimes, but not today.

I poured half my portfolio into oil stocks when it crashed in March, up about 22 percent already and climbing, I prefer tangible assets instead of created assets, no cloud servers or zoom or overpriced tesla, like Buffet says, if you can't explain it to someone else in one minute, forget it.

Yeah, committing to crypto demands some extensive DD, butT ...
I see crypto, i.e. blockchain as completely new technology ... paraphrasing 'time spent from invention of the wheel to todays ..'
Fact is crypto (BTC) run is in its early infancy. Supply of BTC is limited even more than at bullion. There are only 21 million Bitcoins ... Institutions (funds) are taking quite an interest in BTC, what will make no. of available BTC even scarcer.
As all fiat printing continues, one must compare crypto to bullion.
You can legally exit China with no more than 50g of gold/silver bullion. The same rule applies in most countries around the world.
At crypto, there are no such limits. You can exit any country with your non-custodial wallet and show up in Zimbabwe or Nicaragua and all your savings in BTC are accessible.
On final, one can stick it to the tax man ... , 'cause to obtain a crypto wallet, an ID check is not required comparable to opening of a bank account.
Technical chart wise, any crypto can be good trading vehicle 'cause of the volatility.
One should extensively 'due diligence' cryptos before getting into it.
Have a look at the "cold crypto wallet", i.e. un-hackable wallet off the Internet.

Take a cruise to the Cayman Islands, bring a letter from your bank that you are a good customer in good standing for at least 3 years, bring 1250 dollars in cash to open an account with the Royal Bank of Canada. Cayman dollar 1.25 to American dollar when I was there. 1000 cayman dollars minimum for an account, mail money orders to fund it made out to cash. You can only get money out in person or DHL, notorized document and cashiers check is sent DHL, no faxes, bank wires, no phone calls, nothing traceable. Hide all your money and sleep like a baby at night.
icnif77:
Trip to Caymans will set you back some US$500 for the 3-days cruise.
I almost got killed once in Cayman's. Very narrow streets with UK driving style. Always when I crossed the road, I look for the incoming car from the wrong side ... of the world.
It's good, you can deal with paper certs. in Caymans (for US$500 'transportation fee', hehe), butT ... we try to get off the paper certificates ... in this 21st century ...
.
Think about the invention of the wheel ...
What would you do with the US bank's paper note in Cuba or Iran or Zimbabwe ...?
Beside decentralized system, BTC wallet is valid everywhere in the world without an ID requirement. No Custom's BS (limit of US$10K cash or 50g of bullion at the exit).
You can exchange BTC for cash through p-2-p, too. Just need an Internet ... and "am-not-smart-enough-brick" and you can find seller or buyer in your area and receive or deposit cash over the bank account or in person, if that suits you better. ANYWHERE! ... around the world.

I find it very interesting ..
BTC/US$ pair is at 25.700 at the moment. I am looking for the pullback into 19k area for reentry ... BTC had more than +300% run in 2020.

And as Bitcoin's price rises, so does its total capitalization, which, as CoinTelegraph's Joseph Young points out, now exceeds the market cap of Visa at $460 billion...
