Q: Missing Christmas: What holidays do you miss from your home country? (expat question)
I miss Christmas the most as an American. I do not miss the commercial part of the holiday, but rather the "spirit" of the festive season. As a Christian, I miss the community of church, the reminder of my purpose here, and the love/charity that is shared. I really do not miss any other holiday season.
Off the cuff responses are always welcome to my questions. Adds flavor to life. Ha Ha.
While I was in China, my host made it sure, I won't forget Christmas and New Year holidays overall.
Since, I've always lived in school's sponsored flat, school was also in charge for paying of the utility bills.
On some 3 occasions as I recall, I was without electricity for Christmas ... 'cause school didn't pay the bill on time.
No-electricity event happened only once per whole contract duration. I consider it as some traditional Chinese thingy ...
Marry Christmas ... with abundance of Easter eggs ... to all!
When in China, it was my national holiday.
The meeting for singing and socialising.
celebrating the 'national spirit'
(something that our governemnt is hell-bent on sucking from us now)
being with family and friends is essential for happiness and health.
Christmas,,,, we actually had the home w/ the wood-burning Fireplace in the Den, Christmas Tree thing going on,, cold weather outside,, but not the absolute freezing kind,, just cold enough so u knew this was a special part of the year.... lying in front of the Christmas tree sharing the feeling,, the special way only a young kid can feel about that,,, sharing w/ my cat,, haha,, not sure if I raised that cat or if she raised me,,, her name may not be spellable,,, but it was like 'wooo geee',,,,,, I bet she gets a kick from being remembered and spoken of from China, thirty some odd years after her passing..... Those were the Days my Friend......

my first Christmas in America in my own place in 12 years, my daughter has a bunch of gifts, fireplace, and a nippy -4 C in South Atlanta. I'm getting old, no other siblings or relatives still around but it's still great. A little brandy and Mannheim Steamroller and put together a puzzle if I can get my daughter to stop playing with "LOL" toys. Waiting to be a dad to my 50's was a good decision.
Merry Christmas, miss China sometimes, but not today.
