Q: morals or losing face?
seems like alot of people here are more concerned about not losing face even in a situations where doing the right thing could save a life, any experience or thoughts you guys want share
Well driving is an obvious example, people continuously refuse to admit fault, instead choosing to power forward, blinkered and stupid, insisting on making the same mistakes again and again; but speaking as someone who worked on the roads for years as a motorcycle courier, I remember thinking exactly the same of folks back home.
Yes some drivers in the UK are idiotic, but they drive that way because they are stupid nothing to do with face, in my opinion, however mainland Chinese drivers take suicidal driving to a whole new level.
On a related point, I can't believe the driving standards have anything to do with the race, i.e. Chinese as when I was in Hong Kong, the driving was very good, on a par, I would say, with central London, (the driving that is). So how come the Hong Kongers can drive but the mainlanders cannot? Also what is the driving like in Macau?
As to other issues of face, I don't know, but I get the impression that face is much more of an issue in Northern / China than down here in the south, I don't think my wife has ever mentioned it.

Macau has few cars and all the roads only goes one way, so no traffic is coming against you (seperated by barriers), which helps a lot.
The Macau atmosphere also seems much more relaxed which helps.
Only mainland China has insane traffic from my experience.
it is part of chinese culture, you have to deal with it. Chinese don,t care so much about ethics, or morals, you,d better have a good friend next to you otherwise something happens in China no one is going to help you
In China, money, power and social status is even more important than your family. If you want to stay in China you have to deal with it
