Q: Is more expensive to eat out or cook at home in China?
Eating out at a local restaurant. Let's say, 30RMB
Eating cheao.unsanitary food out is cheaper, but the prices skyrocket for as soon you want to eat quality food in a higher end restaurant, and then it becomes cheaper to cook using quality ingredients.
depending on your situation either or .
for example a single bowl of noodles at a restaurant is more practical than doing the dish at home for one person
however if you are feeding a family of say 4 then home cooked will save heaps .
there are heaps of senarios and each have a different answer
I cook in my house, because I don't speak Chinese. I'm also very wide on the food choice.
I can say 'dumplings' in Chinese or point to the pic on the menu, but I can't go into details, especially at days when moon's telling me I should eat only dumplings with vegetable filling.
I know, how to say (understandable) 'not so much rice, pls' in Chinese. I'm just not sure, why Chinese always repeat the same sentence after me. Every time I say that.

I would say that the biggest difference will be in food quality, if you compare 30 RMB restaurants with home cooking.
Well at home, I don't get the waft of smoke across my table, nor the free entertainment that resembles a chimps tea party.
On a serious note , eating out is about timing - if I eat out about 40 minutes after the rush then it is a very pleasurable experience.
It's cheaper cooking food yourself I think.
I normally eat at the Muslim restaurants, costs me anywhere between 10 to 15 RMB for a good meal (clean and healthy!). I also sometimes cook at home too, it's a bit cheaper but eating out is a lot more convenient.

Well clearly we don't go to the same restuarant, unless if you also live in Rugao and go to the Langzhou La Mien place near Hong Ba which I somehow highly doubt.
Yes, it's clean. The kitchen is super clean and you can see inside. I haven't seen any rusty pots, plates are clean, tables are properly cleaned and so forth. So yes, it's clean. It's cleaner then any other place I have been to, I am quite pleasantly surprised.
