Q: My foreign co-worker was told by the doctor to go to the psyc ward, because likes to talk to people?

The doctor said he thought he had a psychiatric disease.  After he went they told him he had a problem.  His problem was that he enjoyed talking to people.  They even gave him a prescription for medicine for him to take.

My co-worker is not overly talkative.  He is your average European white guy.  BTW this was in Guangzhou, not a Mickey Mouse city.  Has anyone else come across something like this.  Wanting to talk to people is natural.  Why would someone in China think it is a psychiatric disease?

Talk "with" people, or talk "at" people?

Someone who likes to talk "with" people is a normal social trait...nothing to worry about. Someone who likes to talk "at" people is representative of a local boss and does require psychiatric care...preferably at a KTV with a young girl who is not a prostitute but does appreciate monetary rewards for her "evaluation."

Or, do he talk to people who nobody else sees? To paraphrase 'The Sixth Sense,' "I see stupid people everywhere."

I thought the usual medical treatment here was to be put on a saline drip followed by a warning not to eat seafood for a week laugh.

Why did he go to the doctor in the first place? Was it because your friend thought he had a problem or was it something unrelated?

As far as the 'liking to talk to people' being a problem goes... well I reckon it depends what he says to the people when he talks to them.

All medicine in China is "Micky Mouse".

Why was he at the doctor? This story sounds BS.

Maybe it is not due to his talking to people, but what he is saying to them.

That's insane. Who in their right mind likes to talk to people? Dude, I like to talk to people as well, but I've never been recommended for psychiatric treatment because of it.

The only reason I was referred to the psyche ward was due to my psychotic episodes where I'd turn green and big, and rip all of my clothes off like some kind of dirty pervert.
