First welcome to the site, and enjoy the experience.

So, your Residence Permit is about to expire and you do not have yet the papers to extend it., or so you claim.

Well, it is either get your employer to supply the papers ASAFP, or find a qualified new employer, or marry a chinese lady, or privately contact "Techezee" (he is a lawyer here) and see how much he will charge you for the renewal under your circumstances, or leave China before your permit expires.  Whatever you decide, DO NOT OVERSTAY !.

Of course, another alternative is to fly to KHG and get a new visa there, even an "L" visa, and return afterwards.

Good luck to you

Are you palnning on staying with your current employer, if so, get an extension with a signature and you'll be fine. If not, well it takes about two weeks for the paper work find a job quick or you'll be like Nathan and Ryan. And as HappyExpat say's, don't overstay, go to the PSB and have it changed into a L visa, they will ask a few questions, maybe have to show them a document about financial stability but you will get a max of 30 days. If you go to Hong Kong you can get more but my suggestion is have your currrent employer do it for you.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
