Q: My wallet and cellphone were stolen on Sunday night, any ideas for how to get them back?

I was in Sanlitun on Sunday night, pretty tipsy, and left a bar to go track down the friends I was with. At some point while I was pushing through the crowd my wallet and cell phone were taken. The shorts I was wearing were fairly baggy, and things do have a tendency of falling out of them if I'm running, so I am holding on to the slim hope that this might have happened, but it's really unlikely that both my wallet and cell would both fall out like that.

Just to say that I've exhausted every possibility, where would you guys look if your wallet and phone were lost at Sanlitun?

Cancel any credit cards, report any official documents, notify your cell phone provider, and take more stringent precautions for any possible recurrences. There is really nothing you can do beyond that. If they were lost, and someone found it, it will be plundered, and anything not useful will be thrown away. If it was stolen, it was for a reason. Probably only for money, but you never know if the other papers will be sold to someone else who knows what to do with them.

Sorry this happen to you.

Thanks, I've done all that now. Live and learn...the one night I wasn't super-paranoid about my things I get robbed. Usually I'm suspicious of everyone when I'm walking around with a vice grip on my wallet. Can't let your guard down for a second around here I guess.

No. You can't. I always carry my stuff in my front pocket, where my hands usually are when I walk. Sad, but true.

Seriously? Are you kidding? Do like Giad said and report what you can, then kiss them goodbye. You could try calling your phone but you'll probably just get laughter on the other side. I had my wallet stolen last week too. It's just too bad, i'm afraid.

l_ho_:

Yeah, I'm not exactly super optimistic that I'm getting these things back, in fact I'm convinced that they're gone. But I thought if anyone had gone to a police station and gotten their things back I may as well give it a shot, just for shits n giggles.

live and learn, next time  you go out, carry, cash keys, your phone and a photocopy of your passport( for spot checks), wont be the end of the world if you lose these things, you can simply replace them but you live in china, no matter how careful you are they will get you sooner or later

mArtiAn:

Haha, I was tempted to get on my high horse and give the old "They? Huh?? They'll get you??? Bla, bla, bla, you racist so and so, who's they???" But in actual fact i've had my wallet stolen three times in 7 years. Each time drunk and passed out, but stolen none the same. C'est la vie.

Go buy a new wallet and cell phone. They're gone forever. Hopefully you've learned your lesson.

wanna used iPhone 4? They're getting cheap as used ones now, everyone dropping them to get iPhone 5. I bought a perfect white iPhone for $200.

In China I had my nice LG stolen and my GF wanted my iPhone, don't bother loosing any sleep over your things. They are just things. Replace them and move on.

I had the same thoughts, that the older iPhones will probably quickly lose value. I'm guessing Taobao is the best place to find them?

You'll need a scooter capable of generating 1.21 gigawatts of electricity, then find a flux capacitor capable of the power, someone in China makes them, Now drive the scooter to 88 miles per hour, you will create a temporal displacement propelling you back in time. Make sure you have good brakes, stop at a time just before you had your wallet stolen and see if you can stop the thief.

mArtiAn:

That's the most rediculous and impossible thing i've ever heard.....no scooter in China can do 88 miles an hour.

My god, it's so crazy it just might work. Next question, anyone know where to find a flux capacitor in China? Guangzhou I'm assuming...

Just in response to everyone who asked if I was joking, or was otherwise completely pessimistic, I was once told the story of a very wise man, William Madison, who after hearing a story about a boy who lost his dog said this in response:

"Whoa whoa whoa, Miss Lippy. The part of the story I don't like is that the little boy gave up looking for Happy after an hour. He didn't put posters up or anything, he just sat on the porch like a goon and waited. That little boy's gotta think 'You got a pet. You got a responsibility.' If your dog gets lost you don't look for an hour then call it quits. You get your ass out there and you find that fucking dog. "

giadrosich:

Yep. That would work for a dog, but not a wallet and cell-phone stolen in China. Go get'im, Tiger.

You're right. Put up posters of your wallet and I'm sure someone will return it. By the way, if you lost your dog in China they wouldn't return it. My girlfriends friend found a dog and because its a pedigree he's decided to fatten it up and sell it. Welcome to China
