Q: Is mychina01 a wumao?
I have encountered this fellow on a few posts now. I am not sure if he is a wumao (someone paid by the chinese government to steer negative opinion away from the communist party), a troll or perhaps mentally impaired somehow. I seem to be the only person who replies to his often extreme comments. I am sure other people see the comments but just ignore him. If he is infact a wumao then everytime I reply to him I help him earn a little money. Does this mean I am entitled to a portion of his income?
May be both of you are on the same boat with different/opposite agenda.

He's definitely a China apologist. I encountered him months ago in an "I love China" blog, and I thought he was supporting the blog author because of his race (he says he's black). I guess he just loves praising China. Whether it's his true feeling, or just money in the bank, will remain a mystery.
I feel better knowing I am not the only one who notices him. He says he is native american now.
I have noticed that the posters who feel the need to claim - especially early on in their time on the board: "I'm a (usually American)....." are not.
This i know is a generalisation.
Most posters reveal their country/region of origin through their comments - which also say a lot about their characters.
I'm torn between wumao and a run of the mill conspiracy nut.
English is very good! (even better than the OP's from Coin's link!) Not only accurate, but doesn't use ridiculously obvious crap that give so many away. (don't flame me, I only read the link from Coin... maybe other posts aren't so good... I don't recall)
I sometimes worry that I'm a wumao, can't really be sure.
My hunch is no, because their english is too good. I'm sorry but people who can more-or-less masquerade as native speakers can do better than being a fucking wumao.
Hell I know people at work...really smart people who have lived in english speaking countries that still when their write emails, presentation or pitchbook material I can still pick up certain chinese-isms and that's not a knock on them at all. It's really tough to get to that seamless native-esque writing level.
If somebody can write well enough that it's not cut-and-dry, definitely not a native speaker worst case for them is that they're doing customer service for western clients and making more than .5 RMB per successful comment.
That doesn't mean that person might not be an idiot and an ignorant nationalist...but theres a distinction between someone with sincere stupid things to say, and a paid government commentator.
My hunch is that anyone who can write well enough to blend in is going to be the former, just because they can make more in the private sector if their english is that good. That said they might be from other countries with an axe to grind against the US, but where the english learning environment is better. I dunno for some reason it's almost always really obvious when a chinese person
So you mean any one who likes China for some reasons is a Wumao ?
It's meaningless to discuss who is a Wumao or who is not .
If you think you have found a big secret that he is a Wumao ,then l tell you l am a wumao cause l love China !

It's not about 'loving' China (although, it probably really is... 'liking' would make sense, but to 'love' it - like a family member... that's something only a national person would do - either born and raised, or adopted - ie, citizenship).
It's about not actually being willing to look at the place honestly, and being willing to criticise effectively. From what little I've read of his/her posts, they don't actually specify anything negative... just vaguely allude to possible bad things.
That's wumao material!

yeah you know theres nothing wrong with being happy here or generally satisfied with your life in China.
It's just that when certain things being said go against empirical observation and push the limits of common sense that it can become suspicious, though I think a lot of times it's a newbie that is genuinely looking for things to be excited about.
Here's an example: I really like that I don't need a car here because China has a public transport system that meets my needs. I can live with the crowding because to me it doesn't make sense to buy a car in a place I have no long term places to stay in.
That's a measured, sincere remark. It acknowledges the shortcomings while celebrating the benefit.
Now if you read something like, China has the best public transport in the world, it is much more clean and safe than in countries such as the US, where the trains are very old. Because Chinese culture values harmony the passengers are always friendly and polite to each other. Other countries can learn from the Chinese example.
That sounds a little suspicious, i mean probably it wouldn't have been written by a wumao but it's definitely written by someone who isn't thinking critically about what they're saying.
That's what people complain about, it's one thing to have a sincere discussion and another to read someone writing what is basically an advertisement or something a lawyer would say about their client.

I'd say the general consensus would be NO. His English is too good to be a local wumao. There's some vagueness about his background/ethnic claims, but not necessarily contradictory. He or she may be a liar, but that doesn't have to lead to the conclusion 'wumao'. I also find the name "myChina01" far too obvious for a wumao username - they like to conceal their prejudices and nationalism. This guy isn't hiding his bias.
I do believe he is american it's just his posts are odd. It's as if he lacks the ability to look at an arguement from both sides and it doesn't seem natural. Someone suggested above that I have a problem with people who like China. That is rubbish. I do genuinely like China, that is why I critise the governance of the country because it saddens me that my new home is not as good as it could be. People who think otherwise seem to belive China and the Chinese government are the same thing. I will simplify my views. I like China. I don't like the Chinese communist party.

I use to go Troll hunting a lot an let me tell you they are like a Hydra , as soon as you out one 2 more come along 
don't waste your time with them, just sift through the shit and take the info you need from the sit and then log off .

Speculation about a member's identity is usually a no go area on public forums.
Many of my own posts are pro China. I have been accused of being a mouthpiece before. But my political views are left wing, so that is be expected.
