Q: New FEC release

Hey, my new employer is gonna apply for a new FEC for me at the end of February. My concern is that my passport expires on the 18th of August and I have heard that it's possible that for the PSB to release me a new FEC my passport would need to be valid for at least 6 months. Unfortunately, it is not the case for me.

Does anybody know some information about this ? Thanks. Happy new year !

FECertificate is issued by SAFEA (Foreign Expert Bureau) with validity till Contract expiration. Copy of your (valid) passport is needed only for ID at SAFEA.

I'm not sure how is with passport expiration and Residence permit. I guess, PSB will issue new RP till expiration of your passport. Then, you'll need to go to PSB again with new passport or extended one for RP, which will end at expiration of your contract.

Type 'SAFEA' in search above for contact no. and address in Heilongjiang, and ask them for the first hand info.

Just ask your employer to ask the PSB.  They are the ones that issue your RP, which goes in your passport.  As icnif77 says, it's not the PSB that issues your FEC.

When I was doing my work permit application, I had less than a year left on my passport. So when I went to my home country to get the Z visa, I got a new passport first.  But of course, in invitation letter etc was issued under my old passport. No problem. I just had to take both passports with me to the PSB and the labour office.

If you get a new passport now the PSB will transfer your RP etc to your new one no problem.

Your employer should be asking the questions, I reckon you should just concentrate on getting a new passport if you intend to stay beyond August.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
