Q: No sure to accept english job
Hello Guys!, I am not native speaker and I am about to accept an english teaching job. The employer is an agent, I don,t know what to do. They told me I have to sign an agreement and they will pay me on the 15th of every month. Do you have good experience with agents?. Thanks
As long as you know that there is a 90% chance of getting screwed since you are a non-native, and through an agent. If you are willing to accept that, then sure take the job.
You think you are cheating the system, the school and the students. Instead, you will be cheated by the agent and the school, for every Yuan they can get.
Another new poster will appear soon, and refer you to the teachers union. They can't help you.
I went through an agent of some sort and everything turned out well, but I think I was really really lucky in that regard. Plus, being a young American helps.
Unless they send you a Z visa BEFORE you leave your home nation, (which is extremely unlikely as you cannot legally be given one) then you will be an illegal teacher.
So what?
Well if your accommodation is provided by the agent then if you don't do as the agent says then you will be out on the street.
You say 'I've got a contract' - the agent knows it isn't worth the paper it's written on as you are working illegally.
So you've been promised xxx RMB a month, the agent now says well actually I'll pay you a lot less oh and btw you'll have to work double the hours, if you don't like it I'll have the police arrest you for working illegally.
And that's a NICE agent, if you're female they can be a lot worse, ever heard of people trafficking?
Unless you have the money in cold hard cash to get on the first aircraft out of there if things should go wrong, don't do it, and tbh, I wouldn't do it even if I had.
Thank you for your advices. I am working for other company in China, and I want to work as a teacher to earn more money, this agent doesn,t provide me anything just the job, but I have already have a Z visa with other company. I just want to earn more money and give some english classes that,s all.

Z visas are tied to one single company and for one single job, which is why an AGENT cannot provide you with a Visa (as he / she isn't a company) and he / she most definitely CANNOT legally get you work on your existing Z visa.
There are ways around an agent providing a Z visa (the agent has to be a registered company AND have written permission to employ foreign experts) but these are rare and make sure you see his / her acaccreditations prior to taking the job AND make sure he / she gets you a new Z visa.
Further to my last post above:
If you do go against the advice and take this job, PLEASE, under no circumstances give the agent your passport, NOT EVEN FOR ONE SINGLE SECOND!

I hope you're not late asking for advice and the agent has stil some moral values and so will return your passport. Otherwise, compassion in China it's not part of their culture.

Get that passport back, don't take any bullshit, if he / she says they are getting a visa tell them you'll take the passport where they say, but get that passport back! They will try and say no, don't take any more BS. Threaten to report them to your embassy not the local police they've probably paid the police off.
If they still refuse your only option is to really call your embassy and to get them to call the local police / PSB, you will probably be deported but at least you'll still have a passport and be able to get out.

well, if they are indeed getting you the visa, they DO need the passport for awhile for processing as that is standard for anybody. but sometimes they will take the passport and after a month of you working they will say,''sorry we can't get the visa,'' perhaps they knew that along, and just wanted to get a month's work out of you, then they will screw you on the pay.. However, there are thousands of non-native teachers in China teaching who have the Z visa, it is more than possible for them to get it if they have the connections.

Chickmag, yes it can happen but YOU take the passport to the PSB yourself and YOU get a receipt so that if you are checked by the Police you are legal, also that means only YOU can get your passport back not the agent who will then use it to force you to work where he / she wants you to work for the pay he / she wants to pay you. There are ABSOLUTELY NO REASONS why a legitimate agent would need to keep your passport, absolutely none. At the very worst let him / her have a photocopy / scan.

Get your passport back, NOW. The only reason anyone should ever have your passport is the proper authorities when they're processing your paperwork - not your employer.

Yes. Go for it. You obviously have made up you mind, despite the fact that you asked for others experiences. Now, you keep bringing up additional information which you think will qualify you to work illegally.
So, by all means, have at it. You'll have no one to blame but yourself.
Hey Guys, I think I have been cheated for the agent. The agent didn,t give me business card, I asked them if the company has an english name and they didn,t know it. In the agreement the agent even didn,t sign the agent. Thank you for your advices
Everyone else has already listed the downside to working for an agency. I agree with all of them.
The positive with an agency though that doesn't get you the proper visa is it's easier to quit whenever you want without much hassles. That's not always the case if youre on a working visa.
