Q: To non-Americans. If Trump wanted to be leader of your country, would he be elected?

As a Brit, I think he would be considered as a fringe politician if he tried for election to PM. This of course would assume he would be eligible for that office. What about in your home country? Electable or not?

Dutch can be xenophobic and misinformed, but no. Even attracting stupid, negative populist, racist votes requires a degree of progessionalism. This guy talks about his dick and his bank account like a child. He'd need to be a better bullshit salesman to operate abroad. People don't value authentic stupidity here.

I can't remember the guys name. The Dutch politician. Gert de Wilde? He is banned from the UK I think.

Yeah, a right asshat. He knows how to attract the angry vote. His proposals are articulate enough to threaten people's rights and make racism acceptable. He gets banned for good reason. He's also a hair-dyed half-Indonesian, probably with muslim relatives, so there's some backstory there. None of his proposals are legally feasible, so he may be a political ploy to fracture the voting strength of disgruntled voters, muscling out smaller upstart political parties. The funny thing is, his distraction party sometimes turns out bigger than the major political parties in the polls.

Geert Wilders is not for real. Real xenophobic politicians get into serious trouble. Pim Fortuyn got shot in the head about 10 years ago. A racist politician before my time, can't recall his name, got assaulted in his home, and his wife lost a leg. A columnist Theo van Gogh got shot dead and a list of 'targets' shoved into his throat by one Mohammed B. who turned out to be in the employ of Dutch secret service, though his action was claimed to be his own initiative. Distraction is a serious business. Dutch Establishment won't let it be done by authentic racists, only rehearsed political robots.

Screaming Lord Sutch had better policies and was more electable!

ScotsAlan:

Indeed he did. I think Trump is more aligned with Nick Griffen in terms of UK politics.

Not a hope in Australia.

Not even in the same ball park, but you should look up Pauline Hanson. She basically got laughed (or yelled) out of Federal politics, although her party has had a couple of senators voted in. Quite different to Trump, but the apparent racism might be seen as similar. I think she only garners about 2% of the vote (ok - after checking Wiki - the One Nation Party has never had any members elected... although similar minded off-shoot type parties have).

(*interesting bit of trivial.. I just read that one candidate in the ONP mentioned above had dual citizenship, having been born in England. The Australian constitution forbids a person who is a 'citizen of a foreign power' to be elected...."On 23 June 1999 the High Court of Australia, sitting in its capacity as the Court of Disputed Returns, decided in Sue v Hill that Hill's election was invalid because, at the time of her election, she was still a citizen of the United Kingdom. The case clarified for the first time that the United Kingdom had become a power foreign to Australia." Weird!)

ScotsAlan:

I assume oz has the same first past the post system as in the UK. So it would be pretty much impossible for an independent to stand for PM.

Strange detail about  a dual national Brit not able to stand there tho. We have the same head of state. But that's a can of worms best left unopened wink

i disagree with the up coming election and what we have to choose from he could get across the line things have changed since that 1 nation mob was around and with foreign ownership of Australian farms and mines and with IS , people tend to be drawn to the likes of him and Hanson don't mean I would personally vote for him or that silly cow but you find someone half way there and you would have a winner. but unless he was with a major party we are safe from him for now God save us if him and Turnbull or Shortern got together though

In Czechia and Slovakia probably yes.

Czechs have the president who s generally hated by the whole Western world (was the only head of EU state who attended last September Chinese celebration of end of war in Pacific) and is generally loved by majority of Czechs (currently the most popular politician).

Slovaks have their prime minister who looks to be extreme xenophobe (not as much as Hungarian one but still well over the limits) and he currently lost the election by being the strongest party with about 30% (but nobody wants to make a coalition with him).

On top of them Slovakia now 71 years after the collapse of Nazism has against fascistic (neofascistic) party in the parliament.

But hey!

What's wrong with calling black being black and white being white?

I do not find Trump that bad after all when I look at the disaster which the Democrats caused in US and seeing the other ’Republicans' candidates ...

(But I admit I may not know much about that as US was never my focal point of interest ...)

ScotsAlan:

I think Obama has done a pretty good job given the total resistance he has met.from the Republicans. I watched his last state of the Union address, and the hatred on the face of many Republicans faces was plain to see. The look of disgust on the face of the Christian poster girl Kim Davis was shocking to see.

I would never question that you think so ...

He apparently is 'American socialist' (or at least his policy looks like that). But exactly that looks to be one of the main US disasters in recent years ...

@Stiggs

I most probably understand much less than you about US situation and policy but all this must be taken in the context of the world situation/politics/

EU is for the last two years in extreme downturn (last year may be even in the total collapse - also thanks to 'socialist' refugees problem - Merkel is probably not socialist [even though she is a daughter of protestant priest] but she may have thought, apparently wrongly, that big influx of immigrants will finally destroy the national states an create the new united Europe).

Asia not yet at the position.

Arabian Spring basically destroying the whole Northern Africa and now Syria.

Lybia had before Obama's assault  Dictator, but was peacfull. Now they are a center of Islamic groups attacking each other and other countries.

And so on and so on

Until quite recently I would never have thought he had a chance in the U.S. It seems like he took a lot of people by surprise.

I like to think he wouldn't have a chance in any other Western country but shit, who knows?

I don't know if he could.

But it's going to be an interesting stress test. I am genuinely curious to know if it is possible for a (self-proclaimed, still to be proven) anti-establishment candidate to get elected and actually implement his agenda against the will of big money.

That would be a first and hopefully wake up other first world countries.

It's even more interesting now it's really getting tough, we're getting out of the rhetorics and the "opposition" (and by that I don't mean the democrats, really just big money of all sides) seems willing to play it dirty, like organize riots and have the press blaming the targets (AKA CIA destabilization playbook 101). By the way, notice how people like Bernie Sanders and others don't seem to have any issue with their supporters using violence against peaceful rallies because somehow it seems fine to do that when there's a "superior cause". If that doesn't tip you off then you got it coming.

There are parties all over Europe that have been on the isolationnist, protectionnist side of politics just like Trump but less exhuberant and actually trying to intelluctalize their views. But they usually get buried by these dirty tricks and many others the second they get too much momentum.

he never would have got elected this time in Canada, BUT,  after a few years of very liberal stuff, I think I could have a go at it in Canada......right now, I am still hoping the guy is the Republicans nominee.

there are few more "middle of the road" folks than me or many Canadians ...  left to right on every election.

I think it is time for a very "right" leader in USA..... if only they had one. Trump is not right or left, he is Trump, and he is more often right than wrong....  is that middle of the road? LIKE ME?

making everybody happy is just a little difficult.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
