Maybe because the note doesn't go through the counting machines at the bank? I guess you can pass the note off elsewhere.

It's happened to me a couple of times, but by being hard headed and not accepting "no" as an answer they've always ended up taking it.

My real problems come from if I have to exchange cash here. The banks won't take Benjamins if they look too worn out or torn. Of course I use the atm but I keep a few hundred stashed away in case everything takes a turn for the worst. So I have to make sure that the bills I bring are crisp and new from the bank.

I just say that's all I have take it or leave it, and say I'm going now, so if you want me to pay take the money if not thank you for the free meal, they can call a Cop he'll just tell them to take the money...

I have a few times and just dig my heels in until they accept it. I have also had Chinese business people in Australia try the same crap.
