Q: Nothing to do? Like to be gobsmacked?

It's that time of year again when we get to see both the most hilarious and horrendous aspects of the Chinar mindset.

Early winter has arrived and for the best seat in the house all you need to do is pull up a pew at intersection near you.

I would suggest you've never seen anything quite so funny, and horrifying, as the antics of local drivers as they try to assert their superiority over everyone/everything in their way while driving around in the winter snow.

We had a big snowfall last night and this morning and fair dinkum...if I didn't see it I wouldn't believe it!

Funniest thing ever!  What dumb bastards!

I suppose this isn't really a question.

Unless you can think of anything else they do that's funnier?

I think your question should be - should you video this, and send it back home???

royceH:

Yes.

I did send that thing that was going around a few years ago that so spectacularly, and accurately,  illustrates a typical Chinese intersection.  It was very funny, and very well done.

The family said to me that surely people couldn't be that stupid.

I was waiting to cross the road tonight, and some dude came up and said in English, "Be careful, its very dangerous"

I was flabbergasted. A Chinese dude, pointing out the obvious.

"Thanks", I replied.

"I know".

This is the conundrum of living here. People know the behaviour is dangerous, but it does not change.

Next story from tonight.

Waiting for the elevator to go to the apartment. Elevator is at -1, I push the up button and stand to the side to allow the people out as it arrives at the ground floor. Some kid pushes through the exiting crowd as they exit, pushes his floor button then the door close button.

My Chinese was good enough to convey my anger as I pushed the up button to open the door again.

Cause and effect.

i watched a few horrorifying videos of people from China (and cambodia i think) being dismembered, beheaded, etc on youtube.  folks, be very careful with the elevators here. dont trust the doors, you could lose an arm or foot. You have been warned...

First generation, shit driving tuition (I know...my wife is currently going through the system) and yangist attitude of me first. Will take generations and actual law enforcement before Chinese drivers follow the rules.

A: Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever
A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
