The best case for a N Korea collapse, ie some political collpase with the south being there to help pick up the pieces, is pretty good as far as shitty events can go.
Big reason why war is such a bad idea there because there IS an upside for those people's suffering ending without a million graves. It would be hard on the south of course but germany pulled it off.

Here, China (and Russia) will want control of the Korean Peninsula - and not allow the US to dominate (ie, remove their troops from SK).

I still think China should annex North Korea and South Korea becomes neutral. And the Americans pull all their military out of Korea and Japan. Japan could re-write it's constitution regarding no-offensive weapons. We can only imagine what will start to happen if Kimmy disappears. Soon Russia will have to start to consider it's resource rich, but sparsely populated territories in Siberia as China grows more ambitious. Kind of reminds me of the USA in the early 1800's.

I think Vlad is less worried about NK getting nuked (or the war re-starting) as he is with a US-friendly NK. Just as he's not happy with NATO pushing further east (Poland/Ukraine), he doesn't want another anti-Russian nation on his doorstep on his eastern border.
Possibly a smart thing for Putin to do would be to do what I suggested the US do - shoot down Kim's next trial.. I think that would be the best win-win-win.

While I do see some argument for attacking Korea - they are quite vocal about how much they hate the U.S and how they are hell bent on getting the ability to shoot a long range nuke, I can see how that would make people uneasy - I don't have any confidence at all in Trump to make good decisions for the benefit of anyone other than him. I think he's a f*****n insane moron and I think he'd go straight to the extreme option rather than all the other more sensible options first.
I also wonder what's in it for him, aside from the all important ratings. This is the guy who wants to cut education, science, social spending etc to spend more on the military. Makes you wonder if he has some financial stakes in the military option or is in some corporation's pocket.
