How do I get them?
I'm losing 20% of my housing allowance, cos it's taxed as income, not an allowance. Of course, tax on rental properties are much much less... so it presents an all too obvious opportunity for someone in the accounts department to make a nice pile of extra cash off me...
So, how do I find out how much I've paid from my pay?

It is really not that difficult to calculate.
Lets say you make 10,000 Rmb per month.
As a foreigner, you are allowed todeduct 4,800 Rmb every month tax free.
So, your taxable income now should be 5,200 Rmb
Then go to table below and see two things after you locate your bracket, the tax rate %, and what I call the standard deduction. In the example case, at 5200 Rmb taxable income, your tax rate will be 20 %, AND YOUR DEDUCTION WOULD BE 373 Rmb
So, 20 % would be 1,040 Rmb, minus the 375 Rmb deduction will give you your monthly tax liability, or 665 Rmb per month. If they deduct more than that, go to Accounting Dept where you work and complain to them.

thanks Happy, but I don't want to 'calculate' it... I want to make sure my employer is ACTUALLY paying my tax on my housing allowance, and not pilfering it! Because, from me alone, they're taking 500/month.
Because I don't know what they ACTUALLY send to the Chinese tax department, I don't know if they're paying or not. Just because they deduct it from MY pay, doesn't mean they're actually giving it to the tax dept.

paying taxes in China, to my understanding, is different from USA, for example, in that here not only tax amounts are withheld and remitted to Tax Bureau, but also I think I understood right you must file a form each month, and a yearly one too. It is difficult to say it because the website with the Law is in Chinese, and I am reading a Google translate version, and it is not too clear.
Try to locate the Tax Bureau in your city, and visit them with an inquire on your case. Maybe at your employer Accounting Dept they can give you location of it.
if your annual income is above 120,000RMB, your employer will ask you to fill up and sign a form yearly.. which is to be send to the income tax dept...
Means if your employer is not asking for this and your income is above 120k rmb per year.. means you are being cheated...
Another option is to get your company directly pay your rental.. then it should not be taxable... the apartment will be rented to your company... not yourself....
Housing allowances are always just that. Allowances. They should only be taxing you based on your salary minus the housing allowance. In fact, that's usually the very purpose of a "housing allowance" so that the school isn't responsible for all sorts of higher taxes.

1he 'logic' that I've been given is that I have to provide a fapiao to receive the full allowance. No fapiao, then I still need to pay tax on that money...

Just normal fa piao with the red stamp? for those you can ask your Chinese friends in some businesses to help you. My ex worked for the TV station and they had 10's of thousands of kuai worth of receipts just lying around.
I don't know the answer to this question, but I make 12,000 RMB and the money for rent is taxed even though I am now and have been all along, paying my own rent of 2,200. The rental was supposed to be in addition to my salary, but the slum I was offered was untenable, so I went elsewhere to pay on my own. How much can I legally be taxed on?
