Q: Old neighbourhoods torn down: do they care?

When people are moved from their old houses so new developments can go up, what are people's typical reactions? Are they annoyed? Resigned? Happy to get a nice new shiny house?

ED: Just to be clear, I'd be pissed as hell, but then I'm not Chinese and perhaps they have a different perspective.... thus the question.

Probably very happy that the glorious government of this harmonious land is reaching into 5000 years of civilization to provide prefabs with poor plumbing and shoddy electrics. Hearts swell with pride at being evicted from traditional family homes and herded into high rise penal colonies.

If someone came to me and said "Hey nice house you grew up in, must have shared a lot of memories, right? Well hey, funny story, we're tearing it down, haha, so yeah, pack up your shit, and if you refuse, you lose everything! And a fine day to you, too!" I wouldn't be too happy either.
