Q: One full day in Hong Kong. What would you see?

I have been 4 times now (all 2-3 night stays).  Been up the peak tram 3 times, and not much else besides shopping and drinking all night at the bars.
I will be passing through next week for 2 nights on my way back to China and this time I want to see something different, cool, and not too touristy.  Any ideas?

Three places comes to my mind.  I have been to all, and had a good time.

1.- Ocean Park :  this is an amusement park, like Disneyland.  Has cable car to their peak, rides, aquariums, animals, restaurants and all sort of things.  Alone might be a bit of a bore for you, but with proper company it was a blast for me.  The roller coaster is great, and the ferris wheel too.
TRhis attraction is mostly a whole day affair.

2.- There is a huge Budda on top of a mountain in Lantou Island, on a clear day there are some great views to see from the top.  Maybe it will be 2 hours or so for the visit.

3.- Stanley Market in south Hong Kong Island :  Going and getting there will see many great views of Hong Kong, so have camera ready during trip there.  Once there, you will be at one of the original settlements, there is a museum, many restaurants and also many stalls selling all kinds of things, and cheap too, bargaining allowed.  By the water front some great restaurants are located, I went to one that had a black Guiness beer sign up front, and had the best shrimp salad I have ever eaten.  Keep the secret for me, I asked for a second one, and ate both, that is how good and fresh it was.
This is probably a 4 to 6 hours trip, depends how much shopping or sightseen you do.

The night market in Central is kind of cool.  Aside from the peak, Budda & aquarium, there really isn't much to see.

Personally, if whenever I am there I rarely make it outside of Lan Kuai Fong or Wan Chai.  I spend all day stuffing my face with food I miss and shopping for electronics.  And all night is spent drinking and people watching.

That's my problem. I always stay in Wan Chai and never make it out of Wan Chai or Causeway Bay. I haven't even been to Kowloon unless you count taking the MTR through it on the way to Wan Chai. I will check out Central this time.

I think Lan Kuai Fong is more fun than Wan Chai. At least it is a tad more classy, though more expensive.
