Q: Opinions on the 'modernisation' of Kashgar?
Around 80% of the ancient mud-built architecture of Kashgar has been destroyed in recent decades to make way for 'modern' buildings of multiple stories and no space for traditional stores/businesses. Have you been there? Do you think this is a crime against culture?
PS.
Fuck China.
Well it does sound like a shame, indeed. Where are you from though? I mean, fuck China is a pretty harsh thing to say, it seems to me that modernization is the way of things across the board, and for a country with such a long history, I think they've done pretty well to retain so much of their ancient flavour. It's not like the place has turned itself into one great big strip mall.
Things like this are happening all over the world, it's just the way things are.
i don't agree with people from another country wanting another country to stay in the past. the times of mud huts is over. move some to a museum and pave the way to the future.
Mr_spoon:
France managed to keep a lot of its ancient buildings, and yet it is a modern country.
Modern architecture is generally horrible looking (Big blocks of metal, concrete and glass), we definitely need to preserve the past.
