Q: Outside the concrete jungle

Anyone know of any quiet places in the countryside around Shanghai worth going to? I don't want tourist traps or mountains with man made concrete steps up them. I want proper countryside. The weathers nice now and I want to get out of the city and away from the crowds.

Mmmm. Not sure about the area right around Shanghai, but I know around HAngzhou ther's a ton of hiking and mountains to get into if that's what you mean by countryside. And even the tourist trap areas have their particular draws. Walk 500m- 1km from the draw and you'll find your solace ! Happy searching!

There's a popular thing called 'Nong jia le' which means happy farm. Hahahaha they are usually 1-2 hrs outside of Shanghai. What it is, you book a coutry side villa, and it's enough for 10 people. The more people go, the more cheap it is, ie it's 1000 yuan, so even if it's 5 people or 10 people, the price stays the same.

Not sure about Shanghai but in Beijing on the outskirts they have beautiful mountains with natural trees probably over 100 species of trees and plants there. You'd probably have to go near the farthest point get on the subway and go at the end away from the middle of the city!
