Q: Paypal full of sh!t

Ok, rant time - however, it may also be useful to other people out there...

i gang.

I just want to bitch for a bit.

Last month, Paypal decided to reverse a transaction on me, without my authorisation. No explanation. I'd sent in complaints/queries to this reversal, to no avail. I'd contacted Australia's consumer affairs type people, and was even looking at Financial Ombudsman's sites - but they said I had to make sure I'd covered all my bases with PP first.

I finally found the one unique email address I needed to sent to for a real full on complaint (not just the normal dispute contact us thing!) FTR, for PP.au - auexecutiveescalations@paypal.com.

it was only AFTER I emailed them that I've finally gotten a response! After over a month of emails (going unanswered), I got a phonecall!!

I'm not sure where the guy works, but I presume he's working for the Chinese side of things. (however, his name is Gupi, and he sounds Indian by his accent!)

Now, not only did PP lie to me originally and tell me the 'seller did not accept payment" (ie, me), this guy, in the space of only a few minutes tried to tell me a) can't do payments to paypal accounts with the same name, can't do payments from my 'union pay' card, as it violated the Terms of Agreement, (Sect10. article O ), cos I tried to make a "cash advance" and that if I tried to do it again, I'd have the account banned! When I pointed out that the ToA specifically mentions "credit card" (hence, "cash advance"!!), he then changed it to "debit card" on the phone! AND, tried to blame the Chinese side of things for this. and I need to follow "Chinese laws" (and, presumably Chinese agreements!) Again, didn't help him, cos I know how to read 'legalese'...

However, as a few people on here know, that's total and utter crap! Especially the bit about the cards and what you can and can't transfer money out of a Chinese bank account using a card!

He had to go and "check" with his teammates, etc,

UNBELIEVABLE! He's actually rang back, and said "nope, it'll be all ok - I'll put a note on your account, so payments shouldn't be blocked in the future!" He's now, at my prodding, obviously, looking at what compensation I can get (ie, I'd expect them to put some some money into my account! I'd also expect, minimum of $100... I used to work in call centres!) We shall see!

Moral of the story - don't give up! And, a 'no' is never always a 'no' (well, alright, sometimes it is... Tongue)

I've had trouble with Paypal and Chinese sellers. I didn't get an order, seller asked that I wait, if it didn't come then he'd refund. I never got item or any refund or replies from seller again, crook. Beyond 45 days Paypal won't do anything which is BS. I use Paypal from my Visa card, Visa will refund even after 45 days.

I have a problem often because most sales are in US funds, if I get a refund Paypal gives me the selling exchange rate which is less than what I paid, you can't deal with Paypal, I hate them.

I think Ebay owns Paypal now.

I like to see these "banking things" on here ....  things are changing, I have no doubt about that.....  China, I think, is getting a little more aggressive in the international market.

they are expecting a few bucks, for even a little bit in or a little bit out ....  if it continues to piss me off, I will be more than a little bit out ....long gone and wish you well China.

P.S. I am disgusted with China today...the banking and the missing plane shit...what have I go myself into....  bunch of lunatics ...just leave I guess, find a place that will accept me and my fantastic Chinese wife and turn off the TV and hope for a decent exchange rate.

Thanks for the info.

I'm still in the process of making my Chinese bank ATM card able to make online purchases. Complicated process, but when I succeed, I'll for sure skip paypal.
