This is why I never had a pet in China.  I have heard way too many stories about fake pet medicine and faked vet licenses.

TedDBayer:

I've had bad Vets at home. Even with the Vet I have now I still come up with treatments or drugs that she never heard of, thanks interent. I also keep coming up with problems that she never encountered before. But Vets at home make more than doctors because doctors are regulated. I spent about $14,000 on my dog for chemo, sorry I did that, not from the money point. Vets are educated to not feel sorry for customers and drugs are routinely marked up 500 to 800%.

Finding a good vet anywhere is really difficult to find.  I don't know about your area, but here in the US we have a wonderful site called Yelp.  It is a service review website that has been very useful to me for finding everything from vets to gardeners to car dealers.  It helped me find a really good vet for my new puppy.

The Vets here won't work emergency off hours any more. I have to go to an emerg clinic, 45 minutes away..I hate that place. When I was raising kittens, I often have a problem with fluid in the lungs, the kitten needs a steroid shot to clear, had it done many times. The emerg Vet said he kitten had pneumonia and would die, but she would not give the kitten a steroid shot. I said if its going to die then no harm, cost $450 for nothing. I was hoping kitten made it until morning when I could see my Vet, it died.

I took care of dog for a friend when he's out of GZ, the dog got affected by parvovirus and was very serious. I took him down to a pet shop in Haizhu district. They told me honestly about the situation of the dog and let me decide whether to proceed the treatment or not. They tried very hard and whatever they did, they saved the dog. I was with the dog all the time, holding him and carrying him when he's taking the shoots and transfusion. It took 8 days in a row and 5 hours each day. The lady there took really good care of the dog. I think they're very trustworthy.

Scandinavian:

It's good to make sure dogs have shots against parvovirus, many dogs die in China because of this

I would check out Doctors Beck & Stone in Guangzhou. Haven't been there but they employ "western" doctors.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
