Q: Planes Train's and Automobiles
So now you are in China and want to see a bit of the place.
We covered pedestrian a couple of days ago so lets take it up a Koch.
As with every thing in China the simplest things can turn deadly in a hart beat.
When flying it pays to be at the front of the boarding line then step aside and board last.
Why ? You ask.
Because if you see some old Biddy throws coins into the engine for good luck...you can turn around and head back to the boarding gate.
The Bus is ok but there is no way I would go on a sleeper bus as drivimg at night isn't the safest thing in most places little loan China.
As for the local buses , if you can get a seat at the back of the bus ( where the cool kids sit in high school)
It's the best 25c rollercoaster thrill ride for the price.
The train is my favorite for long distance travel
If you don't want to talk you can hide away on the top bunk .
My last trip i was lying under a warm blanket drinking hot coffee and looking out the window at the snow on the forrest trees and the ice floating down the river (well I hope it was ice)
And keep an eye out for pick pockets and the run of the mill thieves.
I have thought about taking a river cruise but haven't done it yet....and no its not on my bucket list .

My personal choice is the moto-guy on the corner. A thrill a minute for 5rmb.
I once had one of my regular riders spot me staggering home in the wee hours. I had no money but he took me home anyway. I paid him and gave him a tip when i treated him some noodles the next day while he regaled his buddies about how funny the super drunk laowai was.

But who are all of those top users i have never seen post anything? Don't they consider Phil a Top User? I'm so confused.
I like the trains. Ok if it's a public holiday they can suck with all the crowds etc but I always thought going somewhere in China by train was a cool experience, especially the old style trains, before they got the fast ones. The fast trains are comfortable and very well organised - great way to travel now - but the old ones had atmosphere. You knew you were in China.
Sipping a beer and watching the small villages, farmers working in the fields etc through the window is something I'll never forget.
I remember arriving in Beijing once at about 2 am and my onward train was at about 8am. It was summer so it was really warm and there were hundreds of people sleeping outside waiting for their train the next day. It wasn't worth trying to find a hotel at that time of night just to sleep for a few hours so I bought a newspaper to spread out on the ground, found a quietish corner and did what the Romans do - camped at the train station. I was thinking this is going to be a really long night but I actually enjoyed it.
