Q: Pooping & Peeing in the streets? NO Public Restrooms?

Seriously? Is this really an issue in China? How bad is it? I'd be mortified if I was walking down the street and someone yanked down their pants and did their business in front of me. And then, while they squatted, I'd probably blow chunks on their shoes because of the smell.

In all the research I've been doing, this is really the first mention of it I've seen. Is it more in the small villages/countryside, or in the bigger cities like Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghi, etc.

Peeing is one thing, that never bothered me. I'd see guys pee in tree stands on the main drag. They don't show anything, too little to hang anything. What bothered me was that there was an entrance to my building that only pedistrians or scooters could use. Along this path was a garden wall. As soon as it got warm people started crapping there and you had to walk by it going to the corner store. P.U.That was gross.  Either that was people or really really really big rats were out later at night.

Usually it's kids, I tihnk it's pretty weird but you get use to it. Just watch where you walk.

I also dislike how people let their dogs piss/shit literally anywhere. This morning in the lobby of my apartment complex I noticed a dried up yellow puddle/stain on the corner of the wall. Obviously dog piss.

What's disturbing is the entrance/exit door was like 10feet away. Could that personally really not make their dog wait an exta 5 seconds and just pee outside.  So gross and inconsiderate.

Once I was sitting on the steps outside a bank. As I was sitting there I saw a stream of water start coming towards my feet. I thought "hmm what's that from".  When I looked up it was someone holding their infant baby right next to me pissing.

Didn't even have the curiosity to move over a bit or say hey watch out you're bout to get pissed on.

Even worse though is later that week I was in the same area smoking a cig (keep in mind this is outdoors). And the same lady walked over to me and ask me to put my cig out because their grandchild was in the area....... really???

I am teaching rich kindergarten kids that have the famous crotchless pants on. The parents are on the mega bucks list of earning and they still encourage their children to just squat down anywhere and take a dump in full public view. So far I have witnessed it three times since arriving here. Not the kids I teach thankfully, I don't think I would be able to look at them the same if it were.

??  Good luck with that one....you are probably living in the poorest place in China if you cannot find a single public bathroom. It's not like that in the richer cities like Beijing and SHanghai. You need to get out more and stop staying where you are staying....LOL!!! HAHAHA!!!

It's a common practice here in the second-tier city of Rizhao, especially among children 0-10. Haha, I remember walking down a sidewalk once one evening. It took me about ten seconds to realize that the sight several paces in front of me was an approximately 10 year-old girl, standing up, torso bent over, taking a dump on one of the trees along the sidewalk, while two women, presumably her mother and grandmother, helped her. The sight was soooo foreign to me that my brain needed extra time to accept what it was seeing and tell my legs to stop walking in its direction. *shudders*

just put a bullet in the parents and the child and put it on television, the streets will be clean from now on. Public flogging or caning like Singapore might work also.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
